Free awesome product for finding quality do-follow backlinks in your niche

I have been on Warrior Forum for a couple of years now but have only become a more active Warrior in the last few months. I wasn't just a lurker, I tried to help people with their questions (mostly technical) as much as I could but I haven't started too many threads that weren't questions or cry for help.
I decided that for my 100th post I am actually going to give back to the WF community and tell you about a free useful product most of you didn't know existed.
I was surprised how many people here don't know about Google Alerts. If you want to monitor your brand or your competition you simply cannot ignore Google Alerts. When Google indexes a Web page or a blog post containing keywords you chose to monitor it will send you an email alert in real time (or once a day if you choose so). This is the best way to monitor your niche. You will see immediately what your competition is doing online. Can this get any cooler? Yes it can...
Today I am going to tell you about AlertRank, the product that claims to be "Google Alerts on Steroids". In fact, it works hand-in-hand with Google Alerts. Here's an overview of how this works:
- You register on www.AlertRank.com and you will be given an email address YourUsername@AlertRank.com
- You create a new Google account for YourUsername@AlertRank.com
- You set up Google Alerts for keywords in your niche
- You are done!
What happens now is every time Google finds a new Web page that matches your keywords it will send an email alert to your YourUsername@AlertRank.com address. AlertRank will analyze the site the keyword was found on and assign it a rank 1 to 10. According to AlertRank's FAQs, the rank is calculated based on:
  • Alexa Rank
  • Google PageRank
  • Alexa inbound link count
  • AllTheWeb inbound link count
  • Yahoo! inbound link count
  • Alexa page views
  • Alexa reach
  • Adsense used
  • Comments allowed
  • Nofollow used
  • Trackbacks used
  • Number of Delicious bookmarks
  • Top Delicious tags
  • AlertRank Quality Score

The higher the rank, the more "important" the site is. So now, for your competitive niches you won't have to go through tons of sites to find the ones worthy putting links on. You can just choose to review only the ones that allow comments and that do not use NoFollow AND related to your niche.
In addition to real-time reports (if you choose to get them), you will also be emailed a daily report (Excel spreadsheet attachment) with all alerts listed along with all criteria used to rank them (see list above).
I hope many of you find this tool useful. I still don't understand why it is so underrated. AlertRank is definitely on my top list of useful tools AND it's FREE.

Jim, you only start realizing the full potential of this tool once you use it for some time.

It sounds like a useful tool, thanks for letting us know about it. I would advise that you need a mixture of link types though. If all your links are dofollow and none are nofollow, that's a pretty telling pattern to the search engines.

Absolutely, I agree. However, most of the links are NoFollow, so it's not as hard to find those, it's the DoFollow that are harder to find, especially in your niche.

Since so many people liked the post, I am posting a follow-up.

      1. If you are a GMail user instead of creating a new Google account for your Alert Rank email you can simply set up a forward based on the sender to automatically forward all alerts coming from googlealerts-noreply@google.com to your Alert Rank email.
      2. I just found a similar service. I am going to play with it more thoroughly but it looks like it does pretty much the same thing as Alert Rank plus it has some "integration" with RSS, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Check it out for yourself - Alerts Grader - Grading Social Media -
