On a word press blog what is the optimum number of posts to display, 5, 10 or another number?, what are the criteria for making the decision, thanks

I think that really depends on your site layout. Set it to whatever fits.

Is that the only criteria?, I'm looking for answers for best SEO performance

I constantly change the number of posts displayed on the home page to fit the length of the sidebar (which I am constantly tweaking!) just so it doesn't look untidy

As far as SEO goes, as long as the full posts are not displayed (which would be duplicated content within the same site/IP address)

To do this you could use plugin HomePage Excerpts, or something similar

    Best of luck

I've never had an issue with this, always post the full posts, can anyone confirm that this is a good idea or not required

Not an issue. Google knows how 'blogs' are set up.
