Free membership To get Opt-Ins

Do you think its a good idea to set up a completely FREE membership site...and once the person signs up they will have access to instructional videos... otherwise they will only be able to access the articles/posts but not the videos.

Right now everything is completely free and not a lot of people are subscribing --- So I am wondering what if I have a membership site thats free to encourage them to opt-in to get the content.

Good idea?

    Perfectly good idea! If you're giving it away for free, you might as well get a valid email in return.

    Here's a better idea yet:

    Free signup gets the articles and posts...then present a One Time Offer/Upsell for the videos.
