#2 for my highly competitve keyword finally my hard work is paying off

21 replies
Man after about a year hard work i was able to get my site to #2 on Google for a keyword that gets over 95,000 exact phrase searches a month (500,000 broad) and has 45,000,000 competing pages 4,000,000 in quotes!!

I used very basic methods and just stayed consistent in my efforts. The jump from #4 to #2 was the hardest and took the longest!!

Just happy and nobody i know understands so i had to post it!

    Also, was backlinking on high PR sites within your niche part of the process? or was it all keyword SEO?

      I am going to write a blog post about what i did, not all of it of course but the meat of it. Relevancy had nothing to do with it.

      THe money is good, sales are about the same so far maybe a tick more. This niche kinda got hammered by the recession so it is hard to say ho well it will pay off. I do think over time it will come back stronger. I just kept working it because i knew work now would pay off later once people started spending again!

      relevancy had nothing to do with it not did i pay attention to PR at all.

    Congratulations. It would be instructive, especially for those new to IM, if you gave an overview of your process for others to learn from.

      That's a very nice result, I would be interested in knowing how many backlinks you currently have pointing to your site.

      I'm in central Wisconsin. I've lived in Stevens Point, Plover, or Wisconsin Rapids for the last 30 years. There's another well-known Warrior from Wauwatosa if I remember correctly. You might know who I mean.

    Great Job!

    I have a quick question. You said that this keyword phrases gets searched for 95,000 times per month (3167 per day), correct?

    Sitting at position #2, what percentage of that search volume are you getting?

    According to a recent study, a page sitting at position #2 generally gets 13.45%. So are you getting around 426 clicks a day from that keyword phrase directly (3167 daily searches X 13.45% of clicks)?

    KateD

    P.S. Here's what all the top ten positions get in terms of percentage of overall clicks (according to the study I read):

    Position #1 ------> 56.36% of clicks
    Position #2 ------> 13.45% of clicks

    Position #3 ------> 9.82% of clicks
    Position #4 ------> 4.00% of clicks
    Position #5 ------> 4.73% of clicks
    Position #6 ------> 3.27% of clicks
    Position #7 ------> 0.36% of clicks
    Position #8 ------> 2.91% of clicks
    Position #9 ------> 1.45% of clicks
    Position #10 ------> 2.55% of clicks

    Using these numbers, going from position #4 (127 daily clicks) up to #2 (426 daily clicks) means an increase of daily clicks by just about 300 clicks! Is that what you are seeing in your stats?

    Again, good job with accomplishing your goal. Now the next question is, what's the chance of getting to position #1. Again, using the numbers from the study, getting the #1 position should translate into 1785 daily clicks! Woohoo!

    Best of luck,

    K

      Those figures seem a bit weird. Why would position #9 get half the clicks of both position #8 and #10. Doesn't really make much sense :confused:

    there are some interesting questions around here, the one I am most interested in is, how much your traffic increased and how long it took (and with how many backlinks) to get to top10 and how traffic was in the lower part of the top10
