Just found out I have cataracts at the ripe old age of 29(!)

It will cost around $4000 to fix and my health insurance won't cover it - so my boyfriend, an internet marketer, is helping me publish a digital book or two in an effort to raise the money.

Any tips for helping a low-cost ($7 to $17) digital book go viral?

I would do a social media blitz, get your friends to help.
Create short blog and ping it and then backlink and book mark it to death.
Then do a crazy video to promote on Youtube and such.
Also you may want to do a press release. Hope that helps.

Well first off don't charge $7 or $17...

      Charge $50 +

People will just as willingly pay $50 as they will $17. Perhaps even more. People associate value with something that is more expensive.

I second the above thoughts. I completely and strongly recommend you charge $47 at least for something that would make them $470 as return on investment.

Remember, if someone is making an investment, they expect it to multiply either income or their happiness at least 10X times.

So make sure you add incredible amount of value to the ebook. Another thing is.. you need to add a few resources which your target market could help. Under those resources, you could add a bit.ly affiliate link. This way you can make extra commissions. But please disclose that you're using affiliate links in the ebook.

If you need further help, feel free to PM me.

If you can make a quick little product to sell for $7, then create a bigger course or product with more value and sell it for $47 as an upsell.

Then sell the small report, and immediately try to get affiliates onboard to promote it, offering them 100% on the $7 and 50% on the $47. If your product provides lots of value and will help people you should be able to get a few affiliates on board to help out.

Stuff doesn't go viral unless its interesting. If you want your ebook to "go viral" it needs to be drastically different and your marketing needs to be incredibly unique. You have to provide an experience worth sharing with other people. You need to be creative and really think outside the box.

Anyone who would take the time and effort to come up with a potentially successful viral marketing plan isn't going to share it with you. Put your brain into it and make the most of the creative powers you have.

The best you'll probably hear here is something like "Post on twitter".
But who cares? Obviously you want to share your product/marketing experience with the most people possible...and social media is a great way to do that, but that's the easy part!

The hard part is coming up with a product and an experience people want to share.

Rather than "interesting" I'd say curiosity-tickling or thought provoking. Some of the most watched videos on YouTube are about totally silly stuff that just happen to be funny somehow

This is exactly what I ment by "interesting".
          Thanks for clarifying.

Make a spin on the title or promotion of the e-book(s).

Name it something like... Cataracts For Cash :-) and do a press release blitz for it.

    I agree, charge more!

Make sure the title is interesting... include a number and make it sound like it's info they wont' find anywhere else. "8 secret ways to..." "10 things you're missing out on..." etc.

Hmmmmmm, to make it go viral... see how you can get people to recommend it to their friends.. google "tell a friend script" and see if you can incorporate it somehow. Or think of a way to reimburse people for referrals. You can always start an affiliate program. Put it up on clickbank. Then add one last chapter.. "Make money by referring others to buy this book." Teach them how to get a clickbank account and tell them to e-mail their link to all their friends. Viral!

Best wishes! Cataracts.. what a bummer!

If you are looking to make a quick $4000, then you might want to offer a service. Even the simplest little thing like creating ebook covers or mini-sites can rack up the bucks for you when you are in a pinch.

If you do not have any skills, you can outsource the project and still make a good buck. There are a lot of small timers that would charge you $50 for a service you can resell for $200.

As for creating a product that goes viral, well there is a lot more to just creating a good product. You can create a great product and market the hell out of it and make some decent money, but it is not quick cash. If it goes viral then that's great, but don't count on it. Anything that goes viral has a little luck involved, no matter how good the product is.

If I were you, I'd definitely tie your personal story into the sale of the product. You'd be surprised how the human spirit kicks in. People love buying products that they can benefit from and help out someone in need at the same time. Stories/causes/products like that get passed around via sites like Digg, Facebook, and Twitter in no time.

    At $7 a piece, you need to sell 3000/7 = 428.5

    At $47 a piece, you need to sell 3000/47 = 63.8

What do you think is easier. If I were you, I would price my product high so that I can actually get to target income and always remember, lowering your price is not the best way to get sales. If your product provides value and you do enough to convince them that it's gonna work for them then people will pay for it.

    Hope it helps
