Hi Warriors, I've wasted lots of time doing article marketing the wrong way when I first got started a few years ago. You might want to consider these 3 aspects when writing and submitting articles so you can avoid lots of wasted time when you do things the right way. If you plan on writing articles for marketing then this is the time to start digging up all your creative skills. Information based marketing can be a very effective way of getting targeted visitors to your site and converting them into buyers. That is why article marketing is a very popular way of getting the contents more exposure by submitting them to article directories. The problem is that's only half the story. Here are some of the common mistakes that people make. 1. Not being clear about your reason to promote your article with the purpose of writing them. With article writing there are 3 main benefits as to why you are promoting them - lead generation; promotion and branding and as a whole it's part of your optimization efforts. Although those are the benefits of them there is only one reason for writing an article - to inform your audience. If you are not giving valuable information then the promotional benefits will not be achieved because no one will read them. Therefore, you need to give quality content, a title that grips their curiosity to make them read the article and then a reason to click on your resource box. 2. Not realizing the full benefits of promotional opportunities of article marketing. You may not be aware that your article can help get you links back to your site. In addition to that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from the same articles. It is not just a matter of getting links back to your site. Part of the process is getting your articles chosen by publishers with a large number of readers and the ability to leverage other brands due to the quality of your work. There are great benefits from having better search engine results. Make sure your article serves the purpose that it's meant to have. 3. Publishing content that is no real value to the reader. When you are writing your articles don't just think about getting links to your site and any visitors are fine. Did you know that not all articles directories automatically accept the content that is submitted. There are specifications and guidelines about the articles that are accepted. Make sure you read and follow the rules of each site before submitting your article to them. Write about topics that the reader wants to read. Research your topic beforehand, check for grammar and spelling and follow any guidelines on the number of words that you can use in your articles. When all's said and done it's a matter of choice on your part. You can get exposure to your site on a very basic level but if you spend a little extra time in producing quality contents and a gripping headline you can enjoy massive exposure. The choice is yours. You may not know that an article which you submit to a directory is not meant to have the same amount of exposure as a highly targeted one with quality content geared towards a narrow group of people. Once you know the difference you will be clearer in the type of article you choose to write and submit. To Your Success, Dean Shainin |

Great advice, Dean! I tried an experiment recently with a squeeze page on a brand new domain. I set it all up in early August, then I did nothing but write about 30 articles, submit them to EZA only, and posted the link a couple times at Twitter. That's it. Very minimal promotion - almost 100% article marketing through the one directory. Lo and behold, that 2-month old site (just a squeeze page, really) is now all over the 1st page of SERPs at MSN for both the main keyword and several long-tail variations. Traffic is flowing and I'm getting new list subscribers daily. And I haven't done anything new to promote it since early this month. You're 100% correct about the common mistakes, too. I purposefully wrote some of the articles - I hate to even admit this - pretty poorly. The spelling and grammar were all good (I didn't want any rejected submissions), but the info was frankly generic and uninspiring in about 5 of the 30 I submitted. And, sure enough, they've gotten the lowest CTR (by far) of them all. I think it goes to prove that you absolutely can take a brand new site (even a one-page site like mine) on a brand new domain name, and start getting free traffic and good conversions through nothing more than article marketing. But, as you note, you must do it correctly and avoid common mistakes. Great stuff, man! Kudos. John |
