Default ClickBank Allows OTO's Now?

I've always heard that ClickBank banned OTO's, but I never personally asked them about it - until yesterday. Here is the reply I got back from them this morning...

"Thank you for your inquiry! ClickBank actually does not have any restrictions against one time offers."

Wow, that's news to me. And very good news!

Had anyone else heard this?

As far as I know there has never been a restriction with OTO with ClickBank. I've ran them before without any problem.

No, CB never stop you from offering OTO.

A few reputable marketers actually offer 2 OTO.

Main Offer > OTO1 > OTO2

i heard about this in a ewin chia e-book.

however the fact that the e-book itself was a OTO from clickbank kinda made it sound a bit daft.

That's strange. I've read that multiple times in other forums in the past year or two. And I know I've seen it mentioned in more than one article circulating the web. Here's one I just dug up that Steven W. wrote...

Hey Steve - where ya at? Just curious where you got your info.

Anyhoo, time to go add OTO's to all my ClickBank products now.

They "banned" OTOs after payment but you can do one before they pay.

offer -> oto -> pay = OK
offer -> pay -> oto = BAD

She did what?

Are you kidding? I used to know that they didn’t approve of anything which was a barrier between the completion of payment and the receipt of the download, and OTOs are such barriers.

Great to hear that CB is allowing it again. Guess we IMers are living in good times

I had heard similar things at different times, but I've seen many OTO's over the past few years myself, so I never knew what to believe.

When it comes to ClickBank, a lot of times you have to just go for it and see what they say. Within reason, of course.

I remember reading in their fine print, which I'm too lazy to look for right now, that they have a beef with OTOs that don't give the buyer clear access to their purchased downloads.

I took that to mean if you put that little blurb near the top of your OTO that the download link is at the bottom of the page, then it's okay. They passed mine through like that.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It would be nice if they mentioned OTO's one way or another in their Terms Of Use, but they don't say anything about them.

From what I gather it appears that they are OK under some (most?) circumstances, but not OK under others. Guess I will have to give it a shot then.

In anyone's opinion, what do you think about linking the buy button on the first page
(regular page) to the oto page?
You would tell them at the top of the oto page, that their buyers link is at the botton of
this page, (But you should check out this limited time offer first).
and then, at the bottom of the oto page, you would have text reading: YES,
I would like this upgrade offer, (Witch would take you to the upgrade payment processor)
and another text that reads: No thanks, I'll pass
on this upgrade offer. (Witch would take you to the regular payment processor).

How do you think the buyer would react to something like this?

I am wondering if it is possible to have your payments go through paypal
and still run an affiliate program and create a hop link through click bank?

I've just heard that click bank takes a lot more out of your earnings than pay pal does.

Any ideas?

Clickbank does allow OTO's. You're all just assuming the Clickbank rep was saying yes to an OTO after payment and before download. She wasn't, all she said was yes to a one-time-offer.

I believe if you asked her if it's acceptable to put an OTO between the order and download you'll have a different reply IMHO.

As far as I know, Clickbank requires you to immediately give product access to the customers.

If they have to go through hoops or an opt-in form before they get what they paid for, I think that's not allowed.

But if you offer an OTO or upgrade option before they buy, or after they've been given the download link, that's perfectly fine.

So we've established that OTO's are allowed (why wouldn't they be?).

And, you can't put an OTO between the order and download right.

The solution:

OTO on the download page

I've seen this a gazillion times but isn't it funny how the simple things are the hardest to construct lol.

So, how would an affiliate situation work with this scenario?
How would one set this up in order that their affiliate gets credit for the upgrade also?

If the OTO is for a ClickBank product in the same account there
is nothing to do as the affiliate cookie will have been set.

So What is click bank actually looking at with the affiliate setup?

There will be two separate products and two separate thank you pages.
If the first sales page sells the first product, then the affiliate will get paid for that
and when the buyer is redirected to the thank you / download page, now there is a
completely different buy button for a completely separate product and price.

How does the cookie on the affiliates computer register with a completely new product
at a completely different price?
(Hope that's not a dumb question... I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of
how the click bank affiliate system works).

The ClickBank cookie is set for a specific ClickBank account
which means that the sale of any item in that account will
earn commission for that affiliate.

They can't and shouldn't. The sale has been made and the affiliate credited the entitled commission in which agreed to when promoting the Hoplink.

No-one mentioned him having all future sales commission for each of my products.

He promoted 1 product and gets awarded commission for 1 product. If he doesn't like the setup he can promote another product.

It's the same as lead leaks via opt-in on hoplinks. There's no rules stating otherwise but it is frowned upon.

They can - as explained above - but the publisher can override by using his own affiliate id in the OTO payment link

They actually stopped OTOs.

The kind of OTOs they accep are the ones you make before
payment but marketers easily beat this buy submitting the
real download page when signing up.

They then change the download page to the OTO page once
it has been approved.

having just put my product on clickbank, they dont allow OTO's unless you have the product avaliable on the same page as the OTO. So the first text on your page would have to say " your product can be downloaded below" then your offer..... trust me I tried several different layouts... and got help by email explaining this ... hope this helps.

I use the oto in a different way. On some of my products, I'll add a oto to my email series for those that sign up to my list. Usually after 2 weeks, if they're still on my list and they haven't bought my item, I'll send them a oto with a much lower price. I snag a lot of sales with that.

Default Re: ClickBank Allows OTO's Now?

Maybe a lot of the confusion here is coming from a mixing of terms. An offer made before the prospect pays is not technically an OTO. It's an upsell or an upgrade, like Macdonald's "do you want fries with that" upsell.

And an OTO is an offer made immediately after the sale and before the customer is taken to the download page.

Different operations, different terms. Clear that up and you clear up a lot of the confusion about what's frowned upon and what's not.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
Charles

So when someone adds a product to click bank, what does click bank actually see?
is it just the thank you page or do they see the sales page also?

Actually, an OTO is a one-time offer, regardless of where in the sales process it appears.

If you want to get more technical, many of the OTOs discussed here are not true OTOs since if the customer goes back to that page again, he'll see the offer again.
