Google Keyword External Tool vs Wordtracker

I generally use the google external keyword tool, but sometimes check out the free wordtracker tool, keeping in mind that google is for monthly searches and wordtracker is daily.

A successful marketer on another forum says she uses the free wordtracker too a lot and is perfectly okay with targeting very narrow niches show up with as little as ten or less searches, so that keeps me interested.

There's always a difference between the two, but today I'm really baffled by the high number of searches shown in wordtracker for my keyword and the very low number shown by the google tool. Usually when I see a big difference, it seems like the higher number of searches is shown by google, not wordtracker.

Any comments?

Adwords is the best keyword tool their is, bar none. It gives you REAL data.

FOr estimations though, I use both the Google KW tool, and Wordtracker. Just remember that its just a tool. Instead of thinking about it, just bust out content.

I really don't know which one is better and most probably no one else does too (only Google does, maybe ). Just test both and you will find out for yourself.

Most keyword tools will use Google's tool, I think some of that has to do with the fact that it's free, if they used Wordtracker the users would also have to subscribe to do research. They both use different sources to get their data, Wordtracker use the organic searches from metasearchengines while Google's tool is for Adwords advertisers and uses both the search and content network (I think).

I assume you're doing research for Google? While Wordtracker's data is from the metasearchengines it's kinda in sync with the SEObook keyword tool and is pretty good when doing research for Google traffic. Keep in mind that Wordtracker has been selling subscriptions for about 10 years so many people are using their data (probably for Google).

I can say that after reaching #1 on Google for a keyword phrase that supposedly received 5 figures in searches per month that keyword tools can be way out of whack at times. I'll usually crosscheck Google and Wordtracker and if they're relatively close I'll go with the keyword, but when one shows a high number of searches while the other doesn't I'll usually pass.

I use Search-based keyword tool. from now on. It appears to be much more accurate than the Adwords tool. The figures are much more modest and from my findings you can probably expect MORE traffic than it shows which is a nice surprise.

Hmmm....don't understand. I quickly get to a point when I don't understand the terminology, which is frustrating.

Regarding the tool mentioned above, aren't all tools "search-based?"

I suggest you pick JUST 1 tool, then live or die by it! For the record, my opinion is that Wordtracker has had it's day!

Market Samurai. Google gives you the data, but MS allows you to interpret it.

I doubt you'll find anybody recommending Wordtracker today
who isn't an affiliate for it (like IMC, who recommend it
in seminars and sweeten the deal with bonuses).

I subscribed for a year a few years back. It has some
interesting features but compared to today's tools,
like MS, that pull data from Google as a one-time
purchase, it's hard to justify paying for a subscription
    service like Wordtracker.

So, when you use the wordtracker tool and see the number next to the key word you interpret that number as the amount of daily searches for that particular key word?

I read on another post by a word tracker employee that the number you see in word tracker represents only 1% of all the searches in the U.S. for a whole year. I AM CONFUSED.

I have used both of them with some success. I tend to lean toward using the Google keyword tool, but I will as use the keyword tool offered by SEObook. For the most part it seems to be pretty accurate, and compliments Google nicely.

Always make sure to cross-reference between multiple tools when doing keyword research. Also, use a little common sense!

You must use both of them if you want to penetrate the keywords.

Google External Keywords Tool is the most essential tool. However, Wordtracker is best for searching the "low hanging" long tail keywords.

Is the external tool different words for the search-based key word tool spoken of in post #6 above which could be the same thing only described with different words?

    Google Keyword External Tool
    By far the best.
If you are going to devote alot of time toward the niche/keywords cut out the guess work completely and run a ad words account in the 9th or 10th spot.
Make the ad not very inciting (so no one clicks it) after 3 or 4 days or maybe a week you will know your demographic EXACTLY.
Important to only be running this page on the campaign.

I use mainly the google keyword external as well, it's just the bee's knees from my experience. I have several keyword tools, but find myself going into the gke tool at least a few times a day before delving any farther.

Haven't dabbled with wordtracker much, but it's useful.

Google is now changing their key word tool? No more external and search based results key word tools but one with features from both combined together?

In my opinion the google keyword external tool is better than keyword tracker because the metrics used in google keyword external are better than the metrics of wordtracker. I am using google keyword external tool from long time and I am fully satisfied with this.
