Domains with different spellings

When you guys build a website, do you also buy domains of different spellings? like with/without "s"?

I have been doing that and not sure if it is needed, and was just wondering what other people do.

Only if it's a site I'm really going to develop or flip at high end pricing or it's a very unique domain with potential value.

I sometimes buy all the major extensions (com, net, org etc) but thats as far as I ever go with it.

I've never done that myself. I would probably only buy variations if it was my brand name.

I agree totally with sbucciarel. You want to cover yourself if you really believe it's going to be a winner.

And another advantage is that you can try out various monetisation methods on each, to see which performs better with similar content.

And, you might end up dominating page 1 with multiple sites!

I think it's a good policy to buy them if it doesn't break your budget and you plan to grow and continue to use the main domain. Google has a ton of them.

Less often done, but some have gone so far as to register names like {company}sucks.com , and others to prevent others from doing it first.

If it the domain is for a brand name, I would suggest buying name and suffix variations. If you are just testing the waters or launching a new website on a trial basis, I would wait to purchase variations.
