How would you monetize this site?

I built a website about a local sports personality that a lot of people don't like. It's called www.Fire(insertname).com

It has gathered some recent local media attention (when mentioned on a radio show, it got around 12,000 hits within and hour!) and suddenly I am getting emails from the likes of:

The Seattle Times
The Tampa Tribune
An NFL.com Representative
CBSSportsline.com
and
(believe it or not) a Local Furniture Chain

I only sell T-shirts on the site, but in the next few days the traffic should begin to literally skyrocket.

So my question is, how could I monetize the site without making it look like that's why I created it. I actually created it to "warn" the community about this guy. I added the T-shirts later.

I don't want to look like someone who is just trying to make a quick buck...although that's what I want to do. LOL :p

Hopefully I don't run into any legal issues! Everything on the site is public record and non-opinionated.

How 'bout conventional banner ad sales? That's pretty good money, charged monthly or annually.

You might see if you could get some local businesses to pay for ad space on the site.
