What Would You Pay For These?

Just a quick question as I'm getting ready for another membership launch and thought you terrific people would be able to help me get in the right frame of mind to select a price set for monthly membership cost.

First, the membership will be focused on delivering new ebook templates to members that will be exclusive to the members only. Basically, these templates won't be added to say, other packages of templates I release in bulk to the general public.

Every month, members will receive at least 2 new exclusive ebook templates.

The templates for members will come with Master Resale Rights. They will also be accompanied by a matching website design.

In addition, each new member template will have it's own video walkthrough that shows how to make changes in both image editing software such as Photoshop and inside OpenOffice Writer.

The reason why I've added the above additional info is not to try and "pre-sell" the membership slots, but rather to try and help make a more informed opinion about how I should price the membership cost on a monthly basis.

Now for the good stuff, the screen shots of a few of the templates.

These are screen caps of the websites, so the ebook templates will look extremely similar to what is shown:

Example #1
Example #2
Example #3
Example #4
Example #5

Now, after seeing those, what do you believe is an appropriate amount to charge per month?

Also, the way I intend on setting up this particular membership is via email, so every week, new things will be sent to paying members. This may have an impact on pricing points, so it's important to note this before giving me your feedback.

I appreciate all comments and feedback from each of you with my dilemma in this thought process. I just want to be certain that I'm on track with my pricing point for the products offered, and if method of delivery will play a major factor.

Thanks in advance,

Tracy

    Hi Tracy!

Having worked with you already in the past...plenty of times I can vouch for the way you do business...in a great way of course! I would actually be rather interested in your service, and personally in my opinion I would say somewhere between $9.99 to $14.99 a month would be fair and "acceptalbe" for this service.

I'll be looking forward to it Tracy!

    Best of luck!

Hey Mike, nice to see you in the new WF :-D

I was thinking along that range as well, but it takes so much effort to do some of these designs, I often wonder if I'm not short changing myself.

So, I thought that maybe I could start off with a discounted price for the first XX sign ups, then bump the cost up for the next XX sign ups, etc. until I reach the maximum sign up quota -- and believe me, I've already set one which is a rather low number to try and keep the value high for paying members.

That's a great suggestion Mike, and I appreciate the words of praise. So let me return the favor....

Mike is an outstanding fellow to work with or for. He is gracious and courteous, so anyone that does any jobs for Mike, please do show him the same. If you do, I know he will always keep you in mind for future tasks.

      Any other suggestions Warriors?

        Tracy,

This sounds like a really good idea, but for pricing it really would depend a lot on how many people you are going to offer it to.

You mentioned the figure would be relatively low. In that case, I would think for two ecover templates with guide/design every month should go for at least $17 - $27 per month.

At least that's what I would pay if I was seeking a service like that.

Thanks for your input Kate. It's very helpful and I'm getting a better "target range" established for this membership.

On a side note though, it's not an ecover service, but an ebook template design membership that can be used to give your PDF ebooks created inside OpenOffice Writer a fresh new look.

And, before anyone asks, No, I won't be designing for MS Word.

Yes, I know I'm losing a crud load of potential sales by leaving MS Word in the dust, but I really like OOo and won't switch over to a more complicated program. I'll leave that to someone else to fiddle with.

Keep those suggestions coming Warriors. So far so good!

Think of it this way...If they want minisite type templates like that they will pay anywhere from $14-$45 usually for them at some of the template sites. So if your going to do the membership...I would take the total of what the designs are worth. Comparing them to what is out there...and do the membership for about 20% of the total value.

So if you were going to have 3 templates that had a value of probably $30 each...
            .20 x 90 = 18

So sell the membership for the IM politically correct value of $17 lol

By the way...the only reason I say that value range is because they won't be exclusive...you will have several sites running around with the same templates so that makes them worth much less overall.

So, Don, in your opinion, what would pull in more members....

A Non-Transferable Resell Rights License, or no resell rights licensing at all?

My thinking was that if I offered the rights to resell, that would pull in more interest and as a by-product, more members. Am I wrong?

No I think you are right on pulling in more members...People like the ability to resell...

I was just saying that...well...like this...
Let's say you made a template for a normal website for someone for $500
It is worth $500 because of your time and effort etc...and it is unique..
So the customer is happy...he/she is the only one that has it.

When you make a design and sell it on template monster or something then it becomes a $45 design...because 100s of thousands of people can buy it if they want...

That was the only point I was making. I was just saying you should take the value of your templates on a mass released non unique type scale of say $30 x 3. Because it would be widely available and may be on multiple sites...know what I mean?

I think your idea of making them resellable for a membership site makes perfect sense. YOu can't afford to make unique designs for every member and if you did the price would be a hell of a lot more per month...

So anywhere in the $17-$27 range is where you should fall for a monthly price I think.

                  • Nice templates.

I think you should set your sites higher, say with a base rate of $37 a month. Of course most people will pay closer to half that with offers.

I'd consider throwing in customistable e-book covers with each of those, to add more perceived value (or that could be an upsell product).

You might also include two designs, but in a variety of covers.

If I was a customer I would much prefer a membership site, rather than receiving the covers through e-mail (they're much more likely to go missing and I can retrieve them in the future).

One other thought - include mini shots of each of the designs. I've been using the (excellent) templates from your exisiting packages and it can be a bit of a pain to have to open them all up to try and find the best one for each project.
