stimator.com - Is this of any value??

I happened to find this site the other day. It is supposed to estimate the value of your domain name. How accurate is it's assessment and has anyone been able to sell a domain for the amount it estimated (or close to it).

I ask because last week I renewed an old domain that had expired... It used to be a directory site, but was really just a PITA because I had to approve all the submissions (I was getting close to 100 a day) and didn't actually provide me any revenue or anything.

I almost didn't renew the domain because the name isn't really all that helpful for anything I can think of except as a directory site However, as it still had a PR of 2 I kept it.

Now this stimator.com site is telling me it's worth a little over $4000, and if I could get even close to that I'd sell it in a heartbeat! However, I know nothing about flipping sites or domains or whatever.

If anyone who knows more about these things than I do (which is pretty much nothing) can advise me, that'd be great!

I was at a site a couple of days which told me that EACH of my sites would be worth 1.5Mil USD and gets 5000 uniques a day

    http://www.valuatemysite.com/www.powersbeyond.com

Oh wow..this one is actually worth a little over $2Mil, lol.

I am ready to take orders for my sites right now...

(Needless to say that those are pure fantasy numbers...)

As a simple rule: Use what the site is making you per month and multiply by 12 for a rough estimate if you want to flip. Of course, buyers mileage may vary. Much luck!

Haha I put my site in there too and they reported:
      is worth $1,628,237 USD

Yeah, very skeptical about that one

Ooh... and I just found another of my sites is worth over 2 million, and another is worth 1.8 million... gee why didn't I find this site before?? Now to find buyers who believe that

      Lol...
      "google.com" is worth $2,187,703 USD

Wow...google would be so crushed I am having fun with this site! I have now find two sites of mine which are worth almost as much as google!

yes i was always told as a rough guide that you should work out how much money your site makes per month x it by 12 and you have a good idear how much the site is worth.
of course you have to take other factors into account such as traffic and scope to make money on the site.

I quite do not trust these tools for estimates, from domain names to websites. A domain name worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

I would steer clear of those websites, they seem to be churn out total crap in terms of estimations as some of the above example shows. A domain is only worth how much someone is willing to pay, which unless it is truly fantastic and comes with content etc, will not be a great sum in most cases.
