Probably Silly Wordpress Question!

Hi

This is probably a silly question but hey ho.

I have a wordpress blog installed on my main domain. Lets say it's called:

www.mymaindomain.com

If I then install a subfolder called:

www.mymaindomain.com/newfolder

Can I then install another wordpress blog in that 'newfolder'?

I suppose waht I am saying is can I have lots of different blogs attached to the one domain - on different subjects?

Hope that all makes sense?

Thanks, Ali

You can if you use subdomains:

    www.newsubdomomain.mymaindomain.com

Sure you can. Just ftp the wordpress files into that folder and make a database and connect up.

    In fact you can have

    something.com/wordpress
    somethings.com/something/wordpress
    something.com/something/somethingelse/wordpress

    You get the idea...

      That's great - thanks

I guessed you probably could it's just that it's taken me so long to set up the main Wordpress blog that if I had ruined it by overwriting it or something - this keyboard may just have ended up embedded in the garden ;-)

You might need to edit your .htaccess file to not rewrite all requests to that subfolder to the main blog's index.php file. Just try it and find out if there's a problem first.

Yes you can, and you can use the same database for all the installs, just make sure the table prefix(es) are unique for each install.

you could also use Wordpress MU, that would mean only 1 install but unlimited blogs each with own templates, posts, pages etc

You'll probably have to FTP the new installs from your local computer rather than use Fantastico, it gets a little confused when you start throwing in subdomains and folders.
