What Membeship Site Software/Scrip should I use?

I have been searching so long hours about which software should I use for upcoming membership website?

I researched so many softwares and even wordpress plugins. But I got pain in trying demos and free trial installations.

I want something simple and can be integrated with payment gateways clickbank....

There's a free script by Mike Filsaime called Butterfly Marketing Script. It's currently free
for download and even comes with some tutorial videos.

I've watched the tutorial videos myself but haven't really installed and setup a site
running it. However, from what I've seen it's good because it will even allow you
to setup your own affiliate network.

At it's present price of "FREE" I think it should be in everyone else's toolbox.

    Well that's just me anyway.

    Best,

I am a big fan of Wordpress and you can set up great memebership sites in Wordpress.

You can collect payments using your favorite payment processor, and of course, you can password protect your site.

    Regards,

Lou, not sure if you knew it or not but there's a bug with EMP that prevents your customers from downloading any 30+ MB sized files without breaking the file off at that level.

I have an open ticket on their help desk and forum for over a month now asking for an update patch. They keep telling me "its in the works" so until the software is fixed, I can't recommend it.

      Sorry,

      Mike

P.S. To the OP, I would recommend Amember b/c it's been around for years, is very powerful, and has a bunch of plugins available for it to add even more functions.

        Hi Mike

I wasn't aware of this. Is it in the newer version they released a couple of weeks ago. I know they sorted some bugs out in that one.

Besides that obvious problem, I'd have no hesitation in reccomending EMP (And no I have nothing to do with it any more).

It's very easy to use and has some pretty awesome features now. I think Anthony has done very well with it

To be honest I'm not sure any script out there is completely bug free. I believe Amember has several as well

        Cheers

          Hi Kim,

Yes, it's the latest version of EMP that was released in December. From the tech description, the minor update that came out about 2 months ago addressed other functions and features of the script and not download file size issues.

Agreed... there's a lot of buggy membership site scripts out there (some more than others). Launch Formula Marketing (no longer available) and Amember are the two best ones I've found to date for reliability and features.

          Take care,

            Whoops

LFM is still available mike, we just rebranded it as login frequency marketing
and at present is on offer at half price while we make the change over though its still probably a higher price than the OP wants to pay

but it is the best option out there

$497 for unlimited licence $297 for a single site licence

let me know if you want this via PM so i can give out the promo code to get the discount

I personally use and recommend MemberWing. It's by far the easiest that I've used and it's flexible. I've personally extended it's functionality in a couple of ways.

Among my clients the biggest problem I've seen has nothing to do with the software, but rather that they just don't know how to structure their site and offer. Here's something I put together to answer that question (at least for one use case).

Two level membership website model | Daniel Watrous

I think if you know what you're trying to do and you know what your community wants, just about any software will do the trick.

              Good luck.

Robert pointed out via PM that I misread the email for current LFM owners to get the new version. So I just paid my upgrade fee and grabbed my copy of the new version. I'm definitely looking forward to using it on my next project.

LFM's a great script... I've used it on most of my sites to date. Solid feature-packed script that's easy to use and very reliable tech support.

If you are planning to do more than one membership site then grabbing the current login frequency marketing deal at half-price is the way to go IMHO.

              My 3 cents,

      Hey,

We just tested 3 softwares for our upcoming project.

Here's two wordpress plugin solutions that have been praised
by the IM comminity:WishListMember and Memberwing.
Both are as newbie friendly as it gets and both cost about the same.
There's also DAP(Digital Pass Access) which is probably the most feature-rich of all three, but it's more technical to deal with.
      Hope that helps.

P.S.:As a side note,if you end up struggling with handling these ,my best advice is to outsource the whole membership site building.

    For Wordpress: Products : wishlistproducts.com
I have seen recommended several times before. I've joined
sites that ran on it and I thought it worked nicely from
    a user point of view.

I use Delavo , which is not restricted

Before just blindly following suggestions as to what the "best" software others think you should use please do some research on your own.

First, decide exactly what you want your site to do. Look at what features you will require now, and what options you think you might want in the future. No one can give advice on what will work best for you until you have a clear idea of what you want the software to do.

Once you know exactly what features your looking for then do some research and see what options are available that meet your own needs. Then you can look at the track records of the different options, how popular each one is, what the customers say about their experience using each one, how good is each products customer support, and so on.

Open ended questions like the one posed here do not really help you in the long run. Everyone has their favorite script that they like. For each script/solution that could possibly be mentioned you will find some that love it and some that hate it.

It all boils down to exactly what do you need and what solution is available that will meet your needs now and for the long term.

There are a few things to consider first...

How technically inclined are you? Or do you want to pay to have it installed?

Do you want something simple? Or complex to be an All In One solution?

Here is the rundown on membership scripts...

Delavo 2 (formerly fantasos) is pretty robust and can do just about everything you would need a membership script to be able to handle. It has OTO's, Brandable PDF's, Kunaki integration, etc. They have good support and plenty of tutorials for setting up the script and using the plugins. It will also integrate seamlessly with standalone HTML sites, Joomla, Drupal, phpBB, vBulletin, and WordPress. It also has built in affiliate management.

It is also presently free for the basic version and free for the Bronze version if you get a friend to respond to an invite to use the script. The 2 remaining levels are a little pricey... but for the most part you may not need the functionality those levels offer.

DLGuard + WordPress works great for memberships. But it doesn't deliver the advanced features of the script mentioned above. But it works, and it works well. No affiliate management. It is $147 for 2 site licenses. So if you want simple... this is the option I would use.

Nanacast is by far the best I have seen when looking at price and features. For $100 or $150 per month you get an amazing set of features that I can't begin to list here... there are too many. If you can afford it I would definitely go for this option. This is better than Delavo on price and features combined... but I don't believe it has the brandable PDF option. Another difference is Delavo can be installed on your own hosting account, whereas Nanacast is a hosted solution. The higher price on this script is just so you can use DNS to hide the nanacast URL.

Amember + WordPress is another simple option. It is slightly better than DLGuard in terms of features... but it comes at a price. I believe it is approx $180 per site to use this script.

I would opt for either Delavo or Nanacast... or DLGuard for a simple site. I would still lean heavily towards Delavo or Nanacast so you leave room for expandability. As with Delavo (not sure about nanacast) you can setup both local (same hosting account) and remote (hosted elsewhere) membership sites all from one script. You also have the ability to email all the members of the site.

    Hope that helps...

    Dennis

I second this to the cue. Add the Paypal Addon if you want some added workability with Paypal. There's a link somewhere on the internet to get RAP, Member+ and the Paypal add on for the same price as two of them together. Google around for the special offer, I think he still has it running.

RAP Press = Gold also. It's just so much easier to use a platform that gets indexed as well because you can run a SEO campaign alongside.

Good luck, feel free to PM me with any other questions.

I looked at SocialSam ages ago and really liked the look of it. The only thing that held me back from using it was the fact my visitors would always have to go to their website which creates a slight disconnect. Other than that it's pretty awesome with all it's functionality as Terri said above and I might use it on another project I have lined up.

You can make a free membership site in wordpress. Just watch Ryan Deiss' vid "12 minute membership site"; pretty cool if you are on a budget. Then all you would need is an autoresponder to keep in touch with your members and drip content through follow up emails.

My vote goes to Digital Access pass though. As far as I could see when I was searching, it's the only membership site software that gives a free trial for 30 days so you have a whole month to implement it and get some customers through the doors. Even if you are not technical it's really easy to set up and integrate with autoreponders and PayPal, Clickbank, 1ShoppingCart.

It's perfect for Wordpress and has loads of features built in that other membership software just doesn't have. It has an in-built affiliate program, email autoresponder and all sorts of accessiblity option to monetize your visitors like pay per view, page view limits, protect individual posts, "sneak peek" etc. Oh and the customer support is awesome.

Based on my experience, setting up membership software is not easy, no matter what the maker said of how easy it is.

I use wordpress to manage my membership website once, and I use DAP-digitalaccesspass-

Perhaps you've been visited their site too and use the trial, and as far as I can say, DAP is good if you manage membership site with wordpress.

Their support is excellent and I even could chat through ym with the support guy.

But note, nothing will be easy, and their script don't work if your hosting with hostgator. But to manage content, delivering content in sequence, payment, etc, DAP is good.

The problem with HostGator had something to do with the mod_sec, according to the DAP support team. I called HG to tell them about it and they had the problem fixed within minutes. So DAP does work with HG. And I agree with you mostphere that the DAP support is great.

Actually, DAP does work on HostGator.

But here's what we have noticed. HostGator is huge, has thousands of servers, and not all of their servers are set up the same.

So, while 80% of Hostgator installations run perfectly smoothly, about 19% will have issues with them - like missing PDO library, or PHP version < version 5, etc - which are usually resolved by the site owner opening a ticket with HostGator. And with the remaining 1%, the owners might pull the plug before we can get HostGator to resolve it :-)

So, DAP officially works on HostGator hosted sites.

      Just FYI.

I was considering Membergate - great but the price!

Then I found WishList which works with Wordpress. Very easy to use and you have all the benefit of Wordpress plugins, tutorials and support.

Also the multi-site license is a fraction of Membergate and you can have unlimited members.

Finally it supports sequential content - so you can automatically drip feed content to members over time.

I shy away from commenting in membership site script threads, becuase i dont want to be accused of peddling my software here

But see this kind of stuff is all well and good, there are a number of alternatives out there priced cheaper than LFM but none of them deal with the marketing aspect of membership sites

Its easy to set one up that deals with member logins and content retrieval etc

but the real skill in monetising a membership site is not in the front end monthly fee etc
just like any other marketing method the real money is in the backend sales

And LFM is designed around the marketing side of owning a membership site, not just the normal commonly held view of how membership sites make money.

Most of it is well hidden and i have yet to see another alternative that even goes half way to delivering this in any other software.

membership sites are essentially just a delivery method and you can make more money from a free front end membership site than many do from paid front ends... I dont just mean upgrades either.

There are insanely easy ways to make a membership produce revenue that never get talked about, much less catered for in any of the software alternative mentione in this thread... Or in any thread I have ever seen on this or any other forum.

here is just one example of using membership sites to make extra cash, and get you JV partners

You can make membership sites go viral on auto pilot if you set the marketing up properly. And I never see this discussed when this type of question comes up.

Now i am not going to divulge every marketing nugget we have built into LFM here on a public forum, wouldnt be fair to the present LFM owners...

But you seriously need to consider the making money part of owning a membership site before you choose software to run one.

Robert is right. LFM currently has one of the best setups available anywhere. The only thing I know of that is even close to it, which is currently publicly available, would be Simple Member Pro I believe.

    Here another vote for Nanacast...

Nanacast is by far the best I have seen when looking at price and features. For $100 or $150 per month you get an amazing set of features that I can't begin to list here...
Why? Software as a service, integrated affiliate program, integrates with different payment providers and another hundred reasons you can see on their page. And no, I´m not affiliated with them.

Was also evaluating most of the solutions mentioned above for my own business, but my vote goes to Nanacast. Josh Anderson, the mastermind behind the ecommerce and membership solution (this is IMHO the coolest of all features) is also available here, but you better drop them a line via their sites support form (@Josh: when you read this, it is a PITA to use, haha).

    Best

This wordpress plug in is free. Loads right up. Seems pretty simple. I've monkeyed with it but do not have in depth personal experience.

There's plenty of them available everywhere. You need to think of what would you like your site to be based on first. Then once you've decided you just get the script. It can be wordpress, some membership script that you pick up or even your custom one.
