Think and Grow Rich - A Two Word Summary of the Book

by milan

Can you tell in just one or two sentences your summary of the book? The beauty of this exercise is that not everybody is going to give the same insight, but you're going to say what was the most important for YOU at the moment of reading the book.

Inspired by the other thread where people basically reply with 'great book', 'bad book', thought to make us all think and grow a more valuable thread

Risking to look very ridiculous I'll tell my most important take aways in 2 words only:

THINK (It's even in the title of the book. It's about the "being rich" mindset, but also suggests you PLANNING. That's how I got it)

FOCUS

    Ill try this out too.

Id have to say FOCUS (napoleon hill talks about how the most sucessful people make decisions quickly and change them slowly)

and TEAMWORK (this is reference to the mastermind which has a whole chapter dedicated to it and i believe is the underlying theme of the book)

would love to read other peoples 2 words on the book.

That one stick to my mind for a long time! Thanks.

IM gurus know this and form mastermind groups.

If you wonder what is the best value you can get out of this forum and seminars: meet people who can be in your mastermind group. Help them, share your experience with them, tell them what works for you. If what you give them is of value they'll even feel obliged to do the same for you.

    FRIGGIN' AWESOME

Okay... well, it is an awesome book. It's written in 1937 and the
power of it still applies today. It's just plain awesome!

And I stated awesome 3 times (not including this one) because
    it just is ;D

It's think, then take the right action. Taking action without thinking will make you a headless fly. Some of your friends who are good at taking action will get a job and work all their life, be in debt all their life and die in debt.

Do you know how Napoleon Bonaparte used to organize people for the battle? He had two criteria:

      1. Is the soldier a good thinker
      2. Is the soldier a good doer (is he lazy)

Those who are bad thinkers and whatever doers - the front line
Those who are good thinkers and good at taking action - they're good at organizing things - put them in the middle to command the front lines.
Those who are good thinkers and lazy doers - they're good for strategists, put them behind the middle lines and let them workout the strategy and some of the tactics. As they're lazy by nature and good thinkers by nature, they'll figure out the optimum strategy naturally

Every battle needs those 3 different kinds of people

      Hi,

Do you want two words (title) or two sentences (post)?
THINK (It's even in the title of the book. It's about the "being rich" mindset, but also suggests you PLANNING. That's how I got it)
I also think it's in the title. The title suggests that even someone who is so lazy that they can barely get out of their armchair, can get rich just by thinking - which appeals to the majority of people.

PS I took the two sentence option.

Yes it probably appeals to lazy people but thinking is not daydreaming! Thinking is HARD WORK! The book is not about do nothing and grow rich.

In case you didn't catch on from the other posts, state two words and explain why you picked those words in two sentences.

I haven't read the book yet, but I might pop round to the bookstore this weekend.

It's insightful, very good and up-lifting information and advice.

The problem I have is that the author didn't make money himself, he only interviewed other people who made money. He doesn't talk too much about taking action, yet filthy rich people who wrote books themselves (the few who had the time), all say hard work is mandatory.

        Thoughts are things.

But that section made me realize that thoughts aren't worth squat unless you take action on them.

The book is full of examples of people who had a great idea and DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

They didn't get rich by just thinking about it.

        They took action.

I agree, but I wonder if the title should be "Take Action and Grow Rich", or maybe even then Mr. Hill knew people wouldn't buy a book with a title that hinted people might actually have to DO something.

      Nice one!

Knowledge and money do not always go hand in hand.

There are those that do... there are those who don't and they teach.

Look at Richard Branson a really "doer" but totally hopeless at school, now employs those "clever types" to do his work!

He is a genius... From school magazine to mail order records to record shop to mega record shops & record label to airline to cola, wedding, cosmetics, holidays, finance....space!

    Timeless, Achievable.

I have read this book several times and listen to the audio version every couple of months. In fact I'm due to do so again shortly.

Do you know that the American Indians have a device known as a dream box. You write down your heart desires and put them in this little carved box. You hold the box in your hand before you go to bed and when you get up and you concentrate on exactly what you want.

    Does that sound familiar?

The principles have been around for a loooong time and have been used by the very wealthy for just as long. It permeates many cultures and has been rehashed several times by the Guru's of the day.

The latest incarnation is "the Secret", however the roots are buried in clearly writing down what you want and then focusing on it daily to ensure the subconscious can work on it while you get on with other things.

I believe it is so simple that most people just don't get it. It's something I have used successully in the past, however like a lot of things I have let slip as "LIFE" gets in the way.

A good kick in the pants to get back into it, I even have a brand new Dream Box that I'll use as well.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    One word...

    BELIEF

Without it you follow through on anything else. A few years ago I was debating with someone about the book and they said the key was PERSISTENCE, but why would you persist in something if you don't believe.

Also, the chapter where Hill talks about his mastermind group of living and dead people requires a lot of belief. He mentions that they are really there, and that can only be accomplished through belief.

There are plenty of good responses (and 1 bad one), but I think they all stem from an underlying belief.

    All the best,

        Hi Ricter,

Not at all. You will see my second post in this thread quotes the questionable post. Not because oif their opinion on the issue, but because of their attempt at spamming the forum.

Your post is just as valid as everyone else's.

In fact, I think our two posts go together. Self hypnosis works better in those who believe it works. And some people are less susceptible to suggestion than others, but belief definitely plays a role.

I just wanted to point out that Kevin was not the person I was debating with at the time.

Without question, persistence is vital to success. But without that underlying belief, persistence won't last long.

For example, Thomas Edison and his associates tried 1,000s of ways to come up with the best light bulb possible. But I don't think they would have kept going if Edison didn't believe it was possible.

Even the smallest failures stop those without belief.

That touches on another thought I had.

Maybe the things we get out of the book (or ANY book for that matter) are what we each need.

It would also explain why we get different things out of it upon each successive reading. Sometimes it's like reading a whole new book.

Exactly. With any book, we will all get different take-aways from it. Look at that big book (I can't remember its name), which has spawned so many religions and cults just because the readers went away with different interpretations and ideas.

The two words I'd most associate with the book are:

    Desire + Action

    Without action, nothing happens.

Think and Grow Rich was a condensed version of Napleon Hills more
    complete Laws of Success.

Also, later in life, Napoleon Hill was rescued from poverty by W Clement
Stone, so you need to do much more than just Think and Grow Rich.

The difference between these two guys? W Clement Stone had a SYSTEM
that he APPLIED to turn ideas into money.

    Best wishes,

The law of attraction is real, and while I have not read the entire book this is basically what the book is about.

I have been experimenting with the law of attraction lately and have had some interesting results. Everything is made of energy, if you think, visualize, feel your goal and know its coming then it will eventually happen.

  • Think and grow rich, yes I listen to his tapes years ago. To me it seems more like dream and become rich.
My thought is people like to be motivated by this type of program, but for me personally is it doesn't tell you how to get rich.
I rather have the answers, not the idea.

I've read it and its a great book. I'd sum it up as PERSISTANCE and FOCUS.

It doesn't offer a "do this and get rich" solution but it does give you loads of personality traits that are needed to succeed. I recommend it to anyone who hasnt read it. I think you can even download it for free on the internet now (no, I dont mean torrents)
