Affiliate Sales Not Showing - Am I the Only One?

According to my Aweber stats I just sent over 100 clicks to the current $3,000 How-to-build-websites-for-offline-businesses promotion. (You can guess who they are)

One of my clients calls and then emails me to say he has purchased and to say "Thanks Chris! I really appreciate you sharing this with me"

So I log into my stats to see how many other $1500 sales I made.

You guessed it. THEIR stats show NO sales and 12 clickthrus.

I call my client who immediately sends me his receipt number and then says: "Chris - They took my money but no download link! - even several hours later"

NOTE: This guy is not a novice - he owns one of Australia's leading web design companies and so yes he did clear cookies before clicking on my affiliate link.

Obviously, I have emailed the support guys of the program in question but this kind of thing really does leave you with a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Big Affiliate Launch.

Affiliate tracking software doesn't record clicks.

Sales made but they don't show.

What makes me hopping mad is that this kind of stuff happens ALL the time. I was speaking with a couple of well-known marketers just last night and we were each saying how much this kind of thing sucks.

It is utterly inexcusable.

Do the math. If this happens to just 100 people like me there's $150,000 that affiliates miss out on.

I am left thinking: Okay - there is 1 sale that I do know about - how many more that I don't?

that sucks, I know how you feel though, it can be extremely annoying, I hope you get your money through though eventually.

  I was speaking with a close friend last night that sent over 15,000 clicks to another very famous guru's promotion without a single sale. Yes EVERY time he emails his list with his own products - he makes sales aplenty. And in the end was told he sent 50 clicks.
  
  I'll post here if things change but I am not holding my breath.
  
  What I hate the most about stuff like this is that for some single mom or struggling family a $1,500 affiliate payment could spell the difference between feeding the family and going hungry.
  
  One thing is for sure - one Guru will never get me promoting his stuff again and ultimately 47,000 subscribers on my various lists will learn why.

That's the reason I always stick to promote affiliate products of which I personally "know" the vendor and Clickbank...

P.S. Some wouldn't agree with me about Clickbank, but as I far as I am concern, Clickbank is good.

Still no response from their affiliate program. I have sent 3 emails so far. I'll give it a few more days and if I don't hear back will publish my clients receipt number on our marketing blog.

These things happen... more often than you think... but that's the risk we have to take as affiliate marketers.

When I discover something's wrong... like in your case, I just stop promoting the product (cut losses). It's painful but it's part and parcel of doing business (both online and offline)

This is the risk we all take when marketing affiliate products online. It sucks that this has happened to you. I had a similar experience in the past. All I can tell you is test buy your products to make sure your not being taken advantage of.

When I first started out way-back-when I had an ebook on clickbank. I sold it for the usual $37. I didn't have a lot of PPC know how at the time. I don't think adwords was even 6 months old when I started using it to promote this ebook. Anyway, after I decided the cost wasn't worth it anymore I quit promoting the ebook.

However, I still had affiliates (not many) promoting it. Yet, every other day for months and months I was still making $37 sales with no commission being removed.

I guess it's possible that these were people that came to my site via adwords and bookmarked it for a later purchase. But I would say this is highly unlikely. Each time I got credit for a sale I felt bad for the poor affiliate who was sending it to me.

  I finally go a reply but specific questions were ignored. I was told one sale was given to another affiliate but had now been credited to me. (Go Figure)
  
  I triple-checked with my client and he assured me that he cleared all cookies and did not visit any other sites promoting the offer.
  
  What is the End Result?
  
  I was going to order myself so the company lost my $3,000
  
  More importantly - I'll never consider promoting anything by them again. Bottom line - no matter how successful your product launch - it still sucks when your affiliate stats are as reliable as screen doors on a submarine.
  
  I was told that they were not in any way suggesting Aweber tracking links were unreliable but still given no explanation as to the huge difference between my Aweber click thrus and theirs.

Just curious, why would you tell someone to clear their cookies? Either a cookie will be set or it won't -- it's not voodoo (usually).

By telling someone to clear their cookies you're doing a disservice to everyone else who cookied that user.

The one MAJOR flaw with cookie based tracking is that a person doesn't just have to just manually clear the cookies for you to lose the referal credit.

Depending on their browser settings, cookies may not even be stored on the machine at all or deleted after the browsing session.

Utility software designed to increase computer performance can also delete cookies such as Ad-Aware and Tune-Up Utilities or Nortons or any kind of security suite usually in their maintenance functions delete the cache asnd cookies as well, so there are plenty of reasons why you would not have received credit.

Yeah this sucks. And you are right, it's not a one off thing either.

Happened to me last year when I was promoting a $2,000 forex product. 6 People sent me receipts to confirm.

Affiliate stats showed the right number of order click through's but no sales.
