What do you think about the Meditation niche?

Ok, so I'm thinking about creating a site based on meditation, etc. The reason? I have a huge interest and passion for it. What do you guys think of this niche? Do you think there is much of an opportunity in it to generate revenue?

I want to be able to create something I have an interest/passion in, but at the same time, be able to make a bit of profit as well for the time spent.

Just curious your thoughts?

MEDITATION and YOGA = lots of $$$

Your demographics will mostly be females, so know your customers beforehand. But lots of money to be made with audio programs people can listen to, especially when they commute to work.

Any questions just let me know

Ok, but what about minus the Yoga part? I want to focus strictly on meditation. Of course, I could venture that into stress reduction and I know that is big.

Hmmm...sounding good so far (convinces self)

If you are really passionate about it then you will also be knowledgable and if so then I think it will work. There are definitely products and websites of interest around meditation which you could monetize from, and there are definitely decent search numbers as there would be with any global pursuit / hobby / interest like this.

Do some competition research - type things like "meditation guide / blog / cd / audio / ebook / website / info" into google and find the authority sites and the products they all link to, to get a better idea of what people are doing and what could be working for them.

Thank you guys! I appreciate it, I will look into it further. It will be nice to work on something I have more passion for vs. something that I really don't have a passion for just for the sake of making income.

I would do a lot of keyword research and see what is selling. I am into mediation myself. I go to a local Buddhist temple every week for meditation and darma classes. I am not sure if I would buy anything online for meditation.

I think a quick search on clickbank's market place would be a good indication.

    All the best with it

Bill Harris and Holosync have been wildly successful in this niche for years.

I think I remember hearing that site alone does several million dollars a year alone.

I have thought a lot about learning a meditation technique due to my overactive brain and insomnia that results from this. I think I might buy something online but I'm not sure. A site on the subject would certainly be interesting, describing the types of meditation and what their uses are. I definitely think you should do it, and there will be a way to monetise it one way or another.

Yes, try it. You won't regret it, but just remember, meditation is cumulative. Check out "Mindfulness in Plain English". Great book. I think you can get it free online if I recall.

I am involved in that niche - but with a slightly different focus.

What I can say is that yes, lots of interest, however it is one of those tricky niches where there is not a great deal of online buying going on...that said, there are a few programs that do consistently well (one mentioned in the thread already) - BUT...you have to be willing to really work this niche as there is quite allot of competition on those few programs that do sell.

Not saying don't do it...just make sure you are ready to put some work in.

The niche is pretty hot and it is large.

Think about narrowing it to certain kind or aspect of meditation to save yourself a lot of time and worry. Alternatively you can do a few targetted sites under 1 big umbrella. The trick is differentiate and promote yourself in a unique way - just like with any other niche.

    Just few ideas...

If I were going to get into that niche, rather then focus on a broad topic like "meditation", I'd narrow it down to using meditation as a tool to get a specific benefit.

The reason why Holosync is appealing to people is that it promises the benefits of long-term meditation in a shorter time, and with less effort. One of the reasons people give up on meditation is that they feel like it's "not working fast enough", so Holosync tries to cater to people's desire for instant gratification and they've built their USP around that.

What specific benefits could you offer to people who learn meditation from you? And are those benefits compelling enough that people will be willing to open their wallets?

Here's an idea: Lots of people who suffer from attention deficit problems don't like the idea of taking medication for it, and so they seek out natural alternatives. Concentrative meditation techniques can help improve your ability to focus and tune out distractions (there's research about it floating around out there if you do a Google search). Maybe teaching people how to use these techniques to improve their ability to focus as a natural alternative to ADD/ADHD meds would be something that people are willing to spend money on. That way, you're offering people some sort of tangible benefit upfront.

As understanding from great researchers here, your knowledge in the subject is amazing.
Since I have been doing a bit of Internet marketing for two of my clients, I believe products and services related to stress, sell well and do pay a good amount of money in ad sense too.
Few Keywords that have been focused lately by me for a client are
*Stress Relief / how to over come stress
    *mind control / hypnosis
    *how to control emotions
    *mediation techniques
    *meditation books for beginners
    *guided meditation

These are the top searches that this site receives of the 10,000 unique it gets.
I see a lot of potential from these keywords for products/books/audio and video. Will let you know once i receive success on few products to be launched.

I am not sure if I would buy anything online for meditation.

Zafus and other mediation cushions sell well online. No many brick and mortar stores carry them. Still, as always, Amazon looms large in most ecommerce endeavors.

Do it man. As a marketer you can never be afraid to enter or exit a niche - no matter how potentially profitable or unprofitable it may be.

If you have the money to invest into a meditation site, and this is a deep passion for you... and you already have the money already coming in from another niche/business... DO IT and delve further into yourself/your life.

I find meditation a bit worthless but if you find it can really benefit someone, then go for it!

Just add value and solve people's problems and the money will follow soon, if you stick with it and develop experience.

    Good luck,

"Meditation" as a niche ma be a hard sell.

Meditation as a means of reaching/enhancing other goals? Absolutely.

I've read anecdotal evidence of meditation improving performance in athletics, especially those which require concentration, like golf.

I've read about people who have used meditation to help them quit smoking.

I've personally used it to reduce and control my blood pressure. About 20 years ago, I had some issues and went to see my doctor. In the process of doing the routine checks, like BP, heart rate, temperature, etc., the nurse called the doc in, and she tried the BP. She did it twice, then hustled out of the room and returned with a little pill that I later found out was nitroglycerin. About 20 minutes later, she took my BP again. I left that day with a sack of samples of BP meds, with the admonition that I would be taking one of those little pills for the rest of my life.

That did not sit well with me. I did take the samples for a few weeks, until I ran out. A friend said I should try meditating. More to please the friend than anything else, I tried it. I liked it. And when I went back for my six month checkup, my BP was down to normal. Doctor noted that the pills must be working. I told her it had been over four months since I'd taken one. She was amazed, but told me to keep doing whatever it was I was doing.

    It's been working ever since.

Would I have bought a book or course on how to lower my BP with meditation? Very possibly.

Are there others out there less skeptical about alternative cures that wouldn't hesitate? Surely.

Even the golf example -- "how to knock 10 strokes off your game without buying new clubs, getting sweaty or sore in 20 minutes a day" would probably sell very well.
