Joomla Based Membership site

Hi

I have a membership site and i'm using Joomla as the Content management system, but I need to add a password admin system to it so all the unique passwords are sent out when someone subscribes. Is there a specific joomla plug in or extension I can use or do I need a buy a separate piece of software script like amember.

Assuming of course it's compatible with Joomla?? Are there any other good ones available which are?

"Community Builder" from Joomlapolist has this functionality. It's a must-have Joomla Extension for any membership site and it's free.
    Good luck!

      Hi there,

Cheers for your input on this very helpful indeed. There are just two payment options on the site Gold and Platinum, but I'm now adding 1shopping cart with Sage Pay as a payment processor so it can accept credit cards as well as paypal.

1shopping cart informed me that we needed to add amember in order for the passwords to be sent out when someone subscribes (ie becomes a paying member) the password isn't sent out when someone registers in fact there is no registration as such. When a visitor decides to buy they will fill out their details and choose a password (or decide their own), then decide how they would like to pay by credit card or paypal.

I also need to collect their address at the same time as a physical product is being sent out monthly to the members

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Do you need something beyond the built-in user accounts for Joomla?

If you allow user registrations on your site, anytime someone registers on the site, they are automatically sent an email with their user name and password.

Community Builder basically extends the user profile, but it is based on the standard Joomla registration.

If you need to integrate payments tied to membership levels, there are several components out there that will do that . . . but again they tie into the standard Joomla registration system.

This is an article about the JCE permission levels . . . not specifically about Joomla membership types, but I do cover them in the post. (You can do some very cool things with the groups feature of the JCE component along with the user types.)

I don't know if you've been following this or not, but the next major release of Joomla is supposed to include more granular ACL permissions. Just something to keep in mind as you're setting up your site.

Hmm, if the membership options are for access to the content on your site, I would just go with a native Joomla component. It seems a little overboard to go with two other monthly subscription services to get a basic Joomla feature done.

There are a couple of components out there that allow you to add additional fields for the Joomla user record. Community Builder is the one most frequently used, but there are a couple of others out there.

Then for the membership and payments, I do know that some of the membership components can work with other payment processors, but you'd have to check on Sage Pay specifically.
