Apple mac help needed

A strange question for which i'm sorry.

I have a mac powerbook g4 which ive been happily using for a couple of years. but all of a sudden I can not change any file names. say what ever is on my desktop if you click it it is highlighted. click it again and you can edit what its called. Well it all highlights but for some reason it won't let me type in the box.

Any ideas i am puzzled.

btw keyboard and everything else works fine. Its as if it is locked some how but I can not find out how or why.

Is there an Apple store near you? You may just have to bite the bullet and bring it in for a repair.

I know it sounds stupid but have you tried rebooting? Even OSX does crash every now and then

Another forum suggested doing a "repair disk permissions".
I have no clue how to do that so, first read this before doing so,
Macworld | Repairing permissions: What you need to know - Page 1
Also, a forum mentioned waiting 10 seconds before trying to type the name change.
I am NOT a Mac repair man nor do I play one on TV or even YouTube

    Hi Alfardo,
    Try this...

Open HardDrive --> Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility

Running Disk Utilities to check and verify all permissions are set proper. Sometimes installing apps can create or have bad permissions.

Also you should have Spring Cleaning 9 on your system, in which case the app also has several tools that can help clean up your system..

Ha ha I don't believe you Anthony. In 3 years I have only rebooted perhaps 3 times.
