Recieved an Offer and I Need your Help!

Hi everybody,

I just checked my emails and I recieved an email from someone who is interested to buy a text ad spot on one of my websites.

The problems is:

1. I don't know how she got the email address, because the email stated on my contact page is another one and whois doesn't show this one either.

2. My site isn't ranking that well and only gets like 3 or 4 visitors a week that are coming from really really long keywords.

What should I do? Can this be a scam and how did the person get the email address?

I hope someone can tell me how I should proceed. Thanks in advance.

Ask how they got your address and why they are interested in your site in particular. After getting some particulars, try and get some more information in the form of references if they are truly interested.

    cheers

In all honesty, I would tell them no, they cant advertise. If you're only getting 3 or 4 visitors a week, it would be pointless for them to advertise. Even if, what would they pay, a couple of bucks?

Get more traffic to your page, then you can work on an advertising plan.

    Hope this helps.

    I agree with Robert.

It doesn't matter if the email is legit or not. If you're getting at most 16 visitors PER MONTH, that's not fair to the advertiser.

The exception might be if the person is looking to buy backlinks. In that case, you'd expect that your site should have a high PR (page rank) or otherwise be attractive to the prospective advertisers.

But here's the thing (and why you should likely just ignore the email)...

    What is your business model?

Were you planning on selling ad spots? If not, don't bother even entertaining the offer. Focus, and stick to your business plan.

    Cheers,

Send an honest reply back. Does your site have PR? If so, they may just be buying a backlink as mentioned before me.

Explain how much traffic your site gets and the work you do on it. Advertisers are often looking for good future opportunities. They might just take a punt and offer you a few $$'s to get a lifetime link on your site. If you are happy to sell a lifetime link it is often a good way to monetize new sites.
