Advice on getting started needed!

Hi all

I'll cut straight to the problem, I've been learning a lot recently on the ins and outs of IM and what I really want is to get my backside in gear and get moving on the fun part, ie actually DOING it and making some cash. Now ultimately things like commission blueprint and niche blueprint are extremely appealing and something I want desperately to get involved with. I did money mining (got it for free which was fab!) and soaked up a lot of good info, but here's the problem....

I'm skint! Potless! Broke! On a tight budget to say the least! I'm nowhere near able to afford the big tickets mentioned above, it's not a case that I'm scared to lose the money, it's simply that I can't afford the outlay and still pay the bills right now. Want I want is advice so all the warriors out there that had their credit cards in their hands (all none of you! ;-) put them away, I'm not after charity benefactors, just wisdom and advice.

I've been looking at programs by guys like jeremy miner and Fabian tan, their reveiws online are good which inspires confidence! but you all know what it's like to be new, the amount of information out there is scarily vast. What I want is some advice on a good lower cost program to get started with. As I become more familiar with the priciples of SEO, article marketing, list building etc, I realise the real gap in my knowledge is building sites and hosting etc, so if there's a system that addresses this issue that'd be very welcome!

My last post here asking for help generated some great responses from you all which led to me getting hold of some useful resources and helped create a good foundation of knowledge, what I want to do now is take action and keep learning as I'm earning (sorry for that hideous rhym!) i just can't afford to spend money all over the shop, so help me put my crap budget to good use and gain some capital for reinvestment!

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond, your experience is hugely appreciated! Also I stress again, I'm in the UK so if theres a great program out there that isn't UK friendly, I can't do much with it!

Cheers and hope alls well

Gordon

    Gordon:

I was in your shoes not too long ago and by no means do I have this IM thing down pat, but hard work and patience will pay off.

First, if your on a tight budget, I would recommend not spending any money on a 'system'. There is plenty of information right here on this forum. Get some basics down and then get to work.

I would recommend checking out Casey Gentles. You can find his blog here:

Casey Gentles Internet Marketing Blog: Tips And Secrets On How To Make Money Online!

Sign up for his guide and you will receive some nice information that will really help you get started without using any cash at all.

The three things I can't stress enough are hard work, take action and patience.

I think first thing first, you need to work on your mindset. There are plenty of great courses out there but without the proper mindset, without the motivation and discipline to follow through... they're pretty much useless.

Ask yourself this question (over and over again if you need to)... Why do I want this? Why....

Find your why and your how's will follow

Regarding the mindset comment, thanks rich but my mindset is sorted! I'm not being indicisive about getting going what I'm looking for is a way to start that has minimal risk and returns enough for me to expand gradually! Not looking for get rich quick and I don't believe that in 3 mouse clicks I'll be a millionaire! Why do I want to do this? Come do my job for a week and you'll understand! No prospects, terrible money, 10 hours a day, working weekends, bills to pay and all I'm doing is making other people richer! I have an honours degree and the ability to work hard and sell, but the only way to make real money AND have quality of life in this world is to work for yourself, that's what I believe anyway! I WILL work for myself and I WILL succeed in my book it's not negotiable! Alexs' list above is spot on as far as I'm concerned, but I need a place to start and I've found that when you're not to proud to run up a flag and say to people more experienced that yourself "I need help" you get answers, good answers...I hope ;-)

    okay Debaser,
lets say first.. what is the thing you help people to do.
in other way.. what is the thing you are special in.
    example:
1- I am a computer technical support, and i love computers so much, so I can provide technical solution (may be be blogging)
2- I can do marketing for another computer company and get commissions
3- I can sell programs or computer maintenance related software (may be somthing kaspersky)
I hope this is useful for you, please let me know your problems, is it about:
how to setup a website or these technical stuff, or how to promote, Please let me know exactly may be I can help you.

thanks for this, for me the problem is definately the tech side, creating websites etc, my strong point is sales! I've been in sales for about 5 years and writing adverts and sales copy is no problem (I used to make lawyers jobs sound sexy and exciting - proof that while you can't polish a turd, you can always roll it in glitter!) I can speak present and write well but I keep falling at the first 2 hurdles

      1. I don't have a website and am trying my best to learn how to produce a very professional site but finding it is more difficult than I thought
      2. My budget is more limited than I would like, so I can't invest in having a website created (not bad I suppose as I would rather learn how than pay someone to set it up for me!)

      thanks again for your help

Sara - I just started the 30 day challenge, am quite enjoying it and the info seems pretty sound, so wish me luck! :-)

Here's the good news. You don't need to know how to produce a very professional site. You just need a site. In fact, no matter how much time you spend learning, your first site will look like cr*p. Accept it, embrace it, take action.

It sounds to me like you need to get over your fear of website building. I'd suggest googling for free websites and free blogs, e.g. Blogger, Wetpaint, Yola, etc. Sign up and start building sites using whatever tools they supply. Post an article, some images, some links to an affiliate product. Your goal isn't to make money, it's simply to get used to putting something out there on the interwebs.

Learn a little HTML and CSS from some free tutorials online. Learn a little about webhosts, cpanel, and ftp from youtube videos. The amount of technical knowledge you need to be successful online is remarkably small. In fact, you don't even have to remember all of it, just know how to find the information online when you need it.

Put a free site up today. Do you already have hosting and a domain name? If not, set a deadline for when you will obtain these things.

The point is to take action today and not continue to be held back by false beliefs. Website building, hosting, and domains are the EASY part of IM. It's okay to put up a cr*ppy site. That's how you learn. You can make it better tomorrow, or next month.

Who said you need money to make money

Squidoo is free, usfree ads has free members, and also hub pages.

Writing articles to boost the rank of your webpage such as squidoo lens (again it is FREE!)

Writing articles will also drive the traffic to your page.

So pick one niche to make your squidoo lens on such as "review of a product" it does not matter if it is a physical product or digital, after all you are getting your feet wet.

Write a darn good review on it, and by writing articles, target people who are in the need of it.

    I hope this helps!

    Dude...

Having money has zero to do with how
    much you can make online.

I made high five figures my first year
    in internet marketing, without spending
a penny on anything but hosting...

    ... the hosting/domain registration costs
were probably less than $150 for the
    whole year.

Check out Bum Marketing Method - Free Traffic Tips
for a simple money-making system that
    doesn't cost anything.

    Good luck

music to my ears mate! I'm soaking up every free course/training/ebook I can get my grubby mits on. And you know what I take the point about getting over the fear of creating the website above which is true enough! I'm a confident guy when I know what I'm talking about! I'm going to start on my first site tomorrow (day off!) and see how it goes!

David - what hosting do you use and why? Cheers

        Hi Gordon,

Be careful with all of that free information. It's so easy to become overwhelmed with too much info. The more you search the more you find info that looks better than what you already have. That caused me to spin my wheels for YEARS!

You mentioned the "30 Day Challenge" that's a really good program. If you focus on that you should be making money soon. Whatever you decide to do the important thing is to stay focused on one thing until you get good at it.

Regarding building a website, WordPress is the fastest and easiest way to get started (IMHO). Have you checked into that for building your sites?

        Gordon-

I use hostgator, mostly out of habit.

I started off using them because they
have live chat help, 24/7/365, which
can be very useful if you're new to
        owning sites etc.

I think if you search online you can
usually find coupons to get your
first month for a penny or something.

        Hope that helps!

Hey john, I haven't checked it out yet but have heard it mentioned a few times. Does it require hosting though or is that only if I want to buy a domain name? (can you tell I'm new to this!!! ;-)

sound advice, I know exactly what you mean! What I'm trying to do is compile a kind of personal "free resource library" and refer to it when I need to! In really enjoying using 30DC, very professional, very slick and detailed, haven't got to the wordpress module yet but I'll be sure to pay close attention! Many thanks again john, cheers
