Must Have Social Bookmarks + RSS | Your Opinions Please :)
I'm working on a new wordpress theme and I'm trying to sort out some issues and I need your opinions.
On your website, what are the must have social bookmark and 2.0 sites? This would be for icons that are located on the header of your site and not social bookmarks for individual posts.
I would guess that Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Google Buzz are the big social sites, with Digg, Delicious, Stumbleupon and ??? I dunno, what are the biggest - must have - can't live without bookmarking sites. Which ones really benefit the site and connect with viewers.
Also, having an RSS link on your site, is it necessary? Do people still follow RSS feeds and is having a big 'ol RSS button on your header useful or is it just a space filler that could be used for something else. In my experience the only thing RSS feeds have accomplished is given scrapers an easy way to steal content.
What about the Mail To Friend option, I see this on a lot of sites but I don't use outlook so whenever sites have these it doesn't do me any good.
And a reminder, this is for the header of a website.
A lot of times when I'm checking out sites and designs I get the impression that many designers throw a lot of stuff onto the site only because they saw other sites using it. There isn't really a lot of thought behind how important or useful it is. I'm trying to cut out he junk and only include what is going to improve the site, improve surfer experience and make money.
