Rant... how NOT to market to members of the Warrior Forum

I've listed my skype contact info on my Warrior Forum because I have made some great contacts here and believe in being accessible.

I'm also fairly partial to listening to people's marketing pitches because for no other reason, I am interested in how they're presenting themselves vs. what they're actually selling. I mean, nothing personal, but the reality is that I am not a prospect to actually buy much of anything related to IM, simply because I've been successful at it since the early 90s, and there isn't much that I haven't seen. But if you really want to market to me, then knock yourself out, I'll give you a listen and tell you straight up yea or nay, and that's it.

That being said, I am starting to really develop a fairly low tolerance for people who lurk on these forums like some seedy pimp in an L.A. bus station, hitting on youngsters, preying on their dreams, etc...

First of all, the way NOT got get accepted as a contact on Skype, or really any other social media site like Facebook, is to just put "WARRIOR FORUM" in your comment message when you request a contact.

So freaking what... WARRIOR FORUM... there's hundreds of thousands of members and lurkers of this site. Saying, "WARRIOR FORUM" isn't some secret passphrase that will gain you instant access to the VIP room. Big deal, you saw me on the Warrior Forum, why exactly do you want to make a connection?

I mean, can't you introduce yourself a little bit? Is there some compelling reason that you decided to reach out to me? Or am I just some random harvest that you think is going to net you some bigtime success?

Then, if for whatever reason that I decide to accept your contact request, don't immediately launch into some hardcore sales pitch as your first communication with me.

I literally had some idiot do just this... they requested a contact via Skype...

WARRIOR FORUM

Okay... whatever... I accepted the request in a benevolent moment.

No sooner did I accept the request, the person asks... "Are you an internet marketer"?

Uhhh... you obviously got my contact info from WARRIOR FORUM so yeah, it's a good bet... but hey, I'll play.

"I think we could have a partnership"

Mmmkay... not exactly sure why you think that, but I'm still listening....

"Are you familiar with my website? blah blah blah?"

Quick scan of the site... obviously an MLM retail ecommerce thing... not interested....

"You could promote it to your clients"

"Listen, my clients are in the services business and aren't retail candidates."

(That's my nice way of saying that if your ecommerce scheme was the last website on earth, I wouldn't risk my many years of hard earned reputation with my list for your schmucky product wrapped in your terrible approach that's a turn off at best.)

"Well, if you ever run across a retail customer that would want ecommerce we do PPC, SEO, web development, etc..."

"Okay thanks."

"Check out this other link of stuff we did...."

{click} ... up comes this terrible page of adsense links for an obviously shelved domain in a completely random consumer market...

"Okay thanks"

"You could make commissions by...."

{CLICK}

That was the sound of me blocking the contact.

Comeon. Quit trolling like bottom feeders.

I'm not one of those who complains about being marketed to... I'm a freaking marketer... it's all good!

But dayummm!!! Don't be a total herb when you do it.

Michael, have I ever told you I love reading your posts?

Don't worry...I promise never to Skype you unless I need some witty
comebacks for some annoying bottom feeders.

      Yeah...I get 'em too.

Ha. I get this on Skype, but also on Facebook now as well.

That little message box pops up and people start asking me all kinds of things.

This past week I was dealing with an older gentleman who I was trying to help but he was insistent that all making money online was a scam. LOL - there was no getting through to him.

I even encouraged him to get over here and just start reading - but that was going to be too much work I suppose.

I felt bad as it seemed he had made some bad investments into a "web business" but in the end it seemed that he had no clue about business and thought the web was some magical thing.

It got to a point where he wanted me to give out my number and talk to him directly on the phone - as the typing chat was not enough - but it had turned into a "woe is me, I spent 5k and only made a hundred bucks" or something similar.

I'm not afraid to call someone, but I could tell it just wasn't going anywhere and his mind set was all wrong. He wanted to likely talk and cry more about his story. I don't have time for that. I like to try to provide solutions - not listen about old problems.

Between that and people just spamming into my skype dropping links to sites I have no time or interest in, it does make it difficult to try to keep the lines of communication open.

And I have no clue what is up with the ones that just come in and say "how are you, where do you live, what do you do" like it's all a big dating scene or something.

How about " Hi, my name is so and so, I found you "here" and was looking for help with "this" and thought you might have a clue. LOL

What I really love is when someone tries to sell me their services, and I point them to where I can get the exact same services for less money.

That rocked. Now I've got someone to call on Skype. Maybe stop by for some Skyline Chili, or Grayder's Ice Cream, when I move through the area. Won't sell you anything, though... I AM the product.

lol .... that was hilarious. What's so funny about it is you actually played along and let this a**hat market to you and he is so totally inept at it.

Reminds me of some offline marketers who somehow got my number and called me.

    Me: Hello

    Long Silence

    Me: (louder) Hello

    Them: Hi

Me: (impatient) Well, who are you and what do you want?

Them: We can get your site listed in search engines and maintain the site.

    Me: Click

No introduction or feeling me out for what I do or what I could possibly need or anything. Just a very uncomfortable phone call from some bozos who think they've got offline marketing down pat.

A fine rant indeed! Michael, that's exactly why I don't put my Skype ID out there for the general public. I've deleted various Instant Message ID's or programs over the years. Some get spammed even though I've never given my ID to anyone but family. Spam dammers anyway!

Although I do admit, before I got on the no call list, I used to have fun playing with telemarketer's minds. Like the time a Kirby salesman called and I asked if it could get blood out. "Blood?" he asked. "Yeah," I said, "there's blood everywhere. Can you come right over?"

LOL - that guy couldn't get off the phone fast enough! I was waiting for the police to come over but they never did. I never got another call from Kirby either. I wonder why?
