Autopost only Relevant Press Releases from RSS Feed - How?

Hi folks,

I have a WP blog where I'd like to include relevant press releases from RSS feeds of online press services.

My problem is that those feeds contain hundreds of items that are not relevant for my niche, so I'd like to

  1. filter the RSS feeds for certain keywords
  2. save the relevant press releases for manual review
  3. autopost the stuff that I approve to a self-hosted WP blog
I've looked into WP-O-Matic and YABB, but couldn't find something like a keyword search.

I suppose the easiest way (unless there's a WP plugin which does it) would be to use some kind of feed manipulation tools, extract the relevant items from the feeds, save them somewhere and then use an autoblogging tool to do the review and actual posting.

Has anybody done something like that? What tools do you use? Can you recommend an autopost plugin and/or RSS tool that might help me?

Suggestions appreciated...

Thanks,

Regine

Have you tried Yahoo pipes? They have some amazing tools to refine your feeds.

    cheers

I agree, Yahoo pipes can be used to filter the content you want from the rss feed.

I use "EasyRSSMixer" from ExtraLabs software.

      Cheap, very simple and effective.

As an example, I am using a news feed for my entire city, but stripping out and publishing only the feed items with my neighborhood in the title or description.

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

        Good morning everybody,

and sorry for the delay -- I went to bed before I saw your replies.

I started to play around with the EasyRSSMixer first as the Yahoo Pipes interface looked a little bit, hm, modern for my taste...

Allen, do you run EasyRSSMixer on your home computer? Or is there a way to run it on a webserver instead of my local machine? The press release feeds update relatively often, and it would be cool to schedule the fetching automatically and independent of my home connection..

If not, I will grit my teeth and take a closer look at Yahoo Pipes...

Thanks to everybody for your help!

Yes, I run it locally and upload it every day. I use a winbatch-type script to do this for me automatically before I wake up every morning.

      Allen,

thanks for the clarification. I'll need to take a closer look at the relevant feeds and figure out how often I would have to run the RSS fetcher.

I use a winbatch-type script to do this for me automatically before I wake up every morning.
Does that script also start the coffee machine?

Again, thanks to everybody. Your help has been much appreciated!
