Affiliate links in an article?

I know about using article marketing to drive traffic to the sales page or website, and then I read about writing an article with affiliate links and driving traffic to an article. Does this really work? (I thought most places would not accept articles with affiliate links.) If so - what kind of back links do you use to link to the articles... other articles? Thank you to anyone who can help!

Affiliate links are widely frowned upon in the article directory world.

Think about it - Google says they don't like aff links anymore.

Would you allow thousands of people to paste them all over YOUR site?

Not being condescending - I'm just pointing out the WHY,

But there's nothing keeping you from doing it on your own domain. Try it out and see if it works for you. I'd study up on the effects of aff links on SEO, though.

Yes, I understand this. This is why I asked the question. I have read in other posts that people use article marketing to promote affiliate products. I was just curious, even though it is "frowned upon," does it still work?

Also, regardless of what that answer is, I have also read that people put "backlinks" to their articles. What kinds of links? More articles?

      Thank you.

I agree with Allen, affiliate links are not looked at very well by Google and most article directories simply DO NOT allow link in the title. Perhaps those people that told you they use this technique, use automatic approval directories. GoArticles is one of them. However, I never recommend the use of this directory or any other automatic approval one. I think they leave much to be desired with regards to the quality of the articles submitted.

Ill never use goarticles again. Everyone says they approve affiliate links on their articles but they banned my old articles for having affiliate links on them. stinks

Many people talk different types of words about affiliate link in articles.
But the real truth is, it is still one of the most effective techniques to increase traffic to your article.

Yes it is true that Google and some directories do not prefer affiliate linking in article. But you can't avoid the method because it is the cheapest technique in the crowd of other costly traffic driving methods.
And if you want to backlink to your article, you can put the backlink in your other articles, in your blog and in comments which are posted in other's blog. You can also put self backlink in the article.

    Hi Cindy,

    Thank you for the question...
obviously you want to know if this tactic works for affiliate marketers, and the truth is that it has worked, it does work, and it will always work, but NOT for everyone.

There is a lot to consider with article, like the keyword you are targeting, the LSI keywords that google consider valuable related to the main keyword, and then of course the actual value of the content in the article. So there is a bit of a "science" behind article marketing.

As well as you need to consider the strategy that you are using to promote an affiliate product : would you rather make a few bucks with your articles or build an affiliate business instead?

Anyway it really cost no money to try it out...give it a shot and see the results you get in your situation, monitor the keywords, the traffic and theconversion rate

You may go to Shrink a link. Track it. Grow your business. | BudURL. You enter your "long url", meaning your affiliatelink, and give it a title, maybe "cheapweightloss" It will create a link for you to use which is an automatic redirect to your affiliate link.

Your link will appear like this, www.budurl.com/cheapweightloss You then simply copy and paste this into the bio box of your article.

HOWEVER, this does not work with EZine articles, but does work with other article directories who moderate incoming articles such as articlesbase.com

Another site like budurl.com is tinyurl.com however tinyurl is greatly frowned upon and a very well known affiliate redirect link.

    Hope this helps!

You guys are awesome ! Thanks for all the honest input. I normally use article marketing to drive traffic and get backlinks to my sites but was toying with the idea of just trying this. I appreciate the help.

Sorry if I am off base here, but I interpret that as...

SCREW the article directory. Link with an affiliate link anyway!

Dude, there is a reason directories don't want to link (directly or indirectly) to affiliate links.

Listen Cindy - there is ONE way to do this without violating most, if not all, directory TOSs.

Go buy a TLD and redirect it to your affiliate link. Place a link to that tld in your resource box.
