Is eBook Still popular as a Product?

I have a site which is bringing me some money on adsense and it's traffic is climbing pretty steadily. I am considering creating an ebook product to be sold off cheaply to capitalize on the traffic growth.

Question I have is, does ebook work well as a sales product or is no longer popular and can only be a give away?

I pretty much make my living selling ebooks. As long as you have a quality product, present it convincingly, and price it fairly, information will always sell.

Ebooks still work very well, particularly in the $7 - $47 range. To create a higher priced product many product creators add video but it's not strictly necessary. Many people still prefer the written word to video anyway because it's easier to skim though the information to find what you're looking for.

Yes it is...You could also create a free ebook ( it could be something like 15 pages ) and promote an other product - That's way you could get more trafic and in the same time make sales...

True. Ebooks are so easy to sell, easy to offer and easily helping you get attention. There are still more and more newbies coming your way around looking for essential and "free" things to learn online and ebooks are both worth the read and payment as long as it ensures to have the value it's giving its readers - even it has less pages as well it doesn't matter

Just curious, Dennis...what do you think about people who buy your product (or somehow acquire it without buying it...) who make it available as a FREE download to those who register for their sites, WITHOUT you giving permission?

Ever run into this problem before?

And...there are lots of people out there having more convenience by reading instead of watching, so Yes, ebooks still work well.

The combination of ebooks and videos are great too. For example if there is a technical stuff that you want to explain regarding your ebook topics, then it is good to use video.

Yes ebook still works like a charm. You are missing lots of money on your table.

Just create a report and offer it for free in exchange of an email then promote them the ebook plus you can further promote affiliate programs and also you can start writing ebooks on similar topics and sell them. It will be a very good cash cow. The system have always worked. Make sure you start building relationship with all the subscribers.

EBook marketing is still a good way of earning great deal of money. But you have to know some secret techniques for increasing sells of your eBook.

You have to display a sample page of your eBook to make the buyer curious.
Initially you have to sell the book at a discount rate for increasing its familiarity.

You can divide your eBook in several online newsletters and charge the visitors for monthly subscription.

You can create a bundle package of several eBooks, because most people prefer it for buying.

Judging from your post, i would say the issue is probably that you are not having much success with selling ebooks or something in that manner. You might want to change the way you advertise or get traffic. As long as instant gratification and the internet exists, ebooks are here to stay. Half the posts here verify my last statement=)

eBook Sales Increase Nearly 116% In January, Paperback Sales Plunge Nearly 31%

Who Wants To Be A (Kindle) Millionaire? - Kiri Blakeley - The Bold Type - Forbes

These two stories should answer your question and make your eyes bug out in astonishment.

I've worked in traditional print and web publishing for over 30 years. I'm friends with NY Times best selling authors and top reporters and on and on. The print publishers and newspapers got into the web late in the game. Now they're being bowled over by web/electronic media and trying to catch up but the bull is out of the pen!

It's a matter of math, reach, expansion. There is no way in heck you cannot sell 5,000 copies of an ebook for $1-$3. In the case of the young lady Amanda Hocking in the story above, she's a rare exception but might not be for long. Ebooks are convenient, cheap and easy to acquire. If you had a Facebook page with 5,000 fans and sold them an ebook for $1 every month you would have some great gravy money for a fiscal year.

I work in comics and animation too and we're waiting for Amazon Kindle to be able to support better graphics. Our comic ebooks are in pdf format now but when e-readers like Kindle upgrade we will rock. Why? Because we can sell comics for like .25 and no reader could turn that down. It would be like the good ol' days again.

Using marketing techniques you find here on WF you shouldn't fail with ebooks. As an example, I've got clients begging me night and day to write their ebooks. I can't. They won't pay enough. I write technical to fiction and fiction is a major creative process. That's why a major part of my IM portfolio is going to be creating ebooks both technical, fact, fiction.

Believe you me, eBooks aren't going away anywhere for as long as there's electricity.

If you can't write, hire somebody. Pay them well and don't try to go for the cheap outsourced staff. That lack of quality will show. Look for someone who has been published in the real world. Print publishing is getting kicked in the teeth but it's far from down and out.

I've got three pals who are top fiction writers. Just about everyone's heard of them or seen movies made out of their stuff. They were reticent to embrace the web and digital but when they did they ended up rolling in dough.

Ebooks are now a major part of their income to the likes they never thought would happen. The formula for us is easy since we appear on radio shows. Your ebook is done and ready, you get on the air, promote the ebook, watch money come pouring in like there's no tomorrow.

      It's SICK!

That's why I'm still studying IM, listening to the IM pros, setting up studio for non-stop production.

      Ebooks. Yeaaaahhhhh!

Yep, IMer's who were talking about ebooks being the next big thing back in the late 90's weren't kidding. Now with all the e-readers, amazon, smartphone mobile apps and all the other stuff I don't know about I'd say it's a good idea to sell or start selling one ebook.

It's amazing how a simple PDF file can go out in the market like this.

Well, not quite. Aside from eInk changes, there need to be two changes on the Amazon end:

One - you can't sell anything for less than .99 on them, unless you're a publisher, and then your other option is free. But even assume a buck a comic is your goal, which is fairly reasonable...

Two - Amazon charges a surcharge for downloads. It's not enough to matter for regular books, but for graphic novels and such it can become an issue.

Neither of which will stop you from putting books out on the Kindle or what not, people already do, but does make the extremely cheap thing hard to do.

Oh and let's not forget an even bigger growing market: Audio Ebooks!

I work in radio and voice over and the rise in audio books is huge as well. It's best to have the text version and audio version of your ebooks.

Now as a turning point for even bigger expansion, gaming handheld consoles are getting more advanced. Kids can read or listen to ebooks on their toys. Just check out the new Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS: First Impressions - PCWorld

With hardware like this coming out there's no telling what's just around the corner IMers can use to deliver their e-products. Just think of 3D video presentations selling your IM products! It's only gonna keep getting better and better. That's why learning how to create your own products is essential.

Sure ebook still works as long the content is talking about what your target are looking for then it will sell.

Basically if there is a demand for your niche then there is people are waiting to buy from you, also put more value and quality to your ebooks so the people that buy your ebooks can learn new methode from whatever you're write in your ebooks.

IMO the next big thing with ebooks will be using more multimedia.

Adobe Acrobat allows you to add video, audio, and flash to PDF documents. So imagine a book about the Egyptian pyramids. With a normal book you have text and images but with an interactive book you can show actual video inside a pyramid. You can have a flash presentation showing how the pyramids were built.

This is just the beginning when it comes to ebooks and with the variety of tablets coming to market this is going to be big.

Here's an example of an app fro the IPad-----> Elements

Multimedia ebooks are going to be big.

      Kevin

P.S. -- If you're not using audio, video, and flash in your ebooks I encourage you to start. They add more to the user experience and allow you to charge more.

    Great thread,

I tend to steer away from calling my ebooks... "ebooks"
I have always seen that branding my products as a, 'report' or 'manual' have much better response rates.

For some reason a lot see ebooks as a cheap form of info and can disregard it as quality.

Don't know how others see this, but this is my experience anyway.

I don't personally believe the market has peaked. One look at the WSOs section can tell us that.

In the crowded marketplace however, we have to stand out. Adding video to the package and deploying the audio version ads value, and not too much extra production cost.

I think people are confused about ebooks and do not view them in the same manner as a PDF file.

A lot of people think an ebook and a PDF file are completely different when essentially they are the same. Now they can be different depending on the software you use to create the book but 99% of the entire online community uses the PDF format.

To answer the OP's question, YES there will always be demand for instantly downloadable information products (ebooks).

If you are creating videos or audio as products, you are more than likely going to have to script it out first. If you don't, you are wasting some time scrambling for things to say.

Misewell turn that script into an ebook...this works the other way around as well. If you create ebooks, you can easily turn it into audio and video.

Even if eBooks turn into something of no value for my customers, they are extremely valuable to me as a product creator.

I agree. I'm referring more to the terminology. eBook isn't nearly as exciting as eGuide or eCourse or Four-Part Digital Program . Funny you mention the old .exe eBooks. I still think of those when I see anyone mention an eBook. I still have a few good ones on the ole hard drive.

    Hi,

Ebooks are a multi billion dollar business. Millions of people spend money online every day in exchange for knowledge, therefore ebooks will always be a lucrative business.

As long as you can provide value you can sell an ebook or give it away in exchange for optin emails for example.

I definitely think ebooks havent seen their peak yet- BUT I think other things are becoming more popular than they used to be.

For example, I see a lot more membership sites now than when I first started IM.

I'm also seeing more website courses- not necessarily a fancy memb. site or ebook, but just different pages of the site having different parts of the course

But yeah... ebooks can still rock it.

I think eBooks still do well, but as someone mentioned earlier, calling them a PDF manual or a PDF guide seems a more popular term to use than an eBook nowadays.

And just adding an audio version and videos to the product is a nice easy way to add value, plus it caters for all different types of people who like to take in the information in a different way.

I personally love watching info products as videos. I just put on a nice cup of tea, sit back on the sofa and make a few notes.

Plus audio and video is a lot quicker to create than writing a PDF document so is a nice way to create a higher priced product with less effort.

If your thinking of developing an ebook, also look into creating a Kindle version [as Trieu said] to put up on Amazon. Not much more work, once you have all the content.

While it is a great idea to give something away for free in order to promote something else later, this action should be looked at as a trust gainer instead of an email address gainer. If you give people a 15 page crap shoot, then that's the quality they expect from everything you give them. You want the quality of the "report" to at least meet the quality of the paid product.

Ebooks are still extremely popular, its how a good chunk of people on this forum make their money. People love the instant gratification that comes with an ebook. I think the most successful people in the IM are those who wrote and sold their own ebooks, so if you are able to get that done you will be on the fast track to some good money.

I love ebooks, I save them in my pen drive and take them everywhere I go.

There can be thousands of forms of products, but there will always be ebooks.

Ebooks still sell, but have a lower perceived value unfortunately.

It still is, as long as the content is of quality. There are eBooks that are sold but the contents are not as what they presented to the readers. EBooks are still very popular since I have learned that most people purchases eBook because for them, you can carry more than 20 books in your pen drive or usb drive. Not as much effort in carrying 20 or more books in your bag. Don't you worry about it, continue to write your eBooks and it would probably stay popular for the next hundreds of years (that's an exaggeration, of course) lol. Since I don't have a specific date on that time frame.
