Hustle that much harder man. Sacrifice hobbies or things you do for enjoyment and dedicate it to IM until you can quit then you can take up that old stuff and keep on trucking.

When I started, I was holding down multiple jobs and doing my IM tasks at night. I hated all of my jobs (except playing music) but needed them.

There were nights I didn't sleep at all. I would just conduct IM until the sun came up and report to Job #1 for that day.

As my online business began to grow, I started firing bosses until the only boss I had left was myself, my wife, my kids, and thousands of clients.

Keep doing the best job you can for your current boss. (It's a karma thing)

Keep growing your IM ventures.

Soon, you will outgrow the job and can fire your boss.

Yikes, I feel your pain. Many years ago I was forced to leave my career and stay home. I became very determined and through much trial and error, finally succeeded. Keep at it, ask questions... the Warriors have a lot to share, so don't feel guilty hanging around in here!

I do see employers looking for internet marketers. But it's a strange breed. I can't imagine why someone who is good at it wouldn't just work for himself.

If you check out Craigslist.com in San Diego I'll bet you'll find more than few job postings for internet marketers. I've seen them. In all likelihood they will want you to do more than just internet marketing (I once long ago looked into one of these jobs)...they might want you to follow up with leads by phone, make coffee whatever.

But I would still say to push harder (and smarter)and get that income up to a level where it's paying the bills. Make a target income for each week and create a business plan around that number. Then fire away and hit that target!

Ya, man. Most of us have been there or are still there.

I worked at my job for several years while doing my IM on the side before I was finally able to quit and do IM full time.

Just use it for even more motivation to work even harder. You dont want to sacrifice your income and living until you are ready to make the switch to full time.
Especially with the recent economic troubles......

Just remember that it's rarely for someone to go online and start earning a lots of money in the beginning, learn by trial and errors, don't repeat your mistakes, soon you will become a better marketer

  How about being self-employed in IM? Do this:
  
  1) Set up a profile at freelance job boards like Elance.com and lots of other boards out there and start bidding, using templates you make to be more efficient with bids.
  
  2) Update your resume, hiring professional help to do this, if you need to, and post it online with a nice Freelance website to showcase your work samples, resume, client testimonials, etc. Update this resume frequently with news, like a new Board position you may have in groups you are active in, new certifications, awards, etc. you may have, new workshops you've attended. Here's mine as an example, doesn't have to be fancy: Diana Barnum Resume
  
  3) Submit your resume through ResumeRabbit; they are excellent. Seek part time and contract work. The submission they put out on the web will send folks your way for years.
  
  4) Head to the SBA.gov site. You're in business now. They have free help linked all over their website, even free consulting via email: http://sba.gov (seek retired marketers for help, they have TONS of ideas and experienced success stories to help with your projects). Sign up for their free ezine & you'll get timely tips, too, like ones I posted here form their latest issue:

  5) Keep networking here and other online forums in your niches & offline, locally, through groups and volunteer work, business meetings announced in your newspaper, etc. to keep current with news, find workshops, competitions, etc. in your area and niches.
  
  6) Seek part time and contract work from employment agencies in your area.
  
  7) Market yourself and your services and add products into the mix, even if only affiliate products:

Figure out why you want to do this. Then consider helping local businesses with your IM knowledge -- improve their marketing by improving their online presence with your help (for money, obviously).

Just wanted to reiterated something already said by someone else here. A Job, IM, any other business and the money one generates from them are just the means to an end. So figure out what you love doing and just do it. Even if it means doing something unconventional (okay, not robbery

). It may not pay you much in the beginning but remember you are more apt to be successful when you do what comes naturally to you.

But if you are in a situation that you just cannot see your boss's face for one more day, as most of us suggested, try freelancing. Go to Elance, Odesk, Rentacoder etc. You may actually end up getting paid more here than you would in a typical job plus you get to work in your boxer shorts

.

One more thing, I hope its just this boss who pisses you off. If you are thinking of doing IM so as to escape working for anyone, well..that's just partly true. You would still be accountable to your clients if you chose to create your own products here.

Take your time, better still, go on a short vacation and you'll come back with a clear mind.

There are so many areas of IM and if you are prety good at certain things then you can land a job or consult for other companies while still being at home and not going out. Just imagine what you are doing right now for your website (promotions), you can do the same for others and stay at home at the same time, use your skills that you have learned, and don't stop working on your own projects either.

If you think achieving what you need to quit your job with IM is still a fair way away - why not just get another job?

Find what you love. What would you do for free? What do people tell you you're good at? What do you do in your spare time for enjoyment? Find that thing that makes the bells ring for you.

Then, find a way to work with it.... to make money working in that area. And keep working with your IM interests. You'll be happier, grow faster, and not be so miserable. One day it will explode for you.

Sounds complicated but it just takes some reading and thinking and hard work and some guts. Go for it!

Try expanding your im business or adding a new one. But remember, one key to anything is persistence. When you are working your online business, it can seem like you have been at it for an eternity. But being persistent with your business and not giving up prematurely can definitely pay off.

one of the most successful business men I know in the offline world always made 400-500k a year and made it look so easy. His ability works both offline and online and it is simple focus. This guy just totally focused on just a few things he could do really well and he spent all his energy on just those things.

If you are having success with something, just spend a little time looking at it and what you are currently doing that is working. Then you can figure out how to spend your time multiplying those things by focusing your efforts on those areas alone. Work on systemetizing those successful areas and possibly begin outsourcing them.

What exactly do you want and how bad do you want it? What are the possibilities? Bigger than you might think.

It's tough working all day and then hitting the computer working some more...but if you stick to it and sacrifice a bit now (no more Chargers games) you'll reap the rewards of no boss that much sooner.

Keep it up and it will soon snowball.

I still work my "regular" job and work my IM at night and a bit on the weekends. It adds up for me and knowing I can alk away makes work that much easier and enjoyable.

I feel your pain as a matter of fact I hate my day job; but know that I can not quit yet. Although I do not think that it will be much longer before I can quit.

There are internet "jobs" available. In most cases these are services provided to owners of websites and are of the "independent contractor" variety. Craigslist is a good source for this kind of work.

I work for a search engine company as an independent contractor. I found the "job" through Craigslist.

I also work as a webmaster for other people's websites doing site maintenance, updates and SEO tasks. These jobs usually come to me by referral.

I make a full-time income from these contracting jobs and it shows every indication, even in these tough economic times, of developing into a six figure income within the year.

The work is out there, if you have the necessary skills. I acquired the necessary skills mainly as a result of my membership in this forum

If you really want to do IM, MrSleep99 said it best. "Sacrifice hobbies or things you do for enjoyment and dedicate it to IM."

In the meantime, get a better job. You'll be happier and you'll be more motivated.

Or invest in a new career. IM is not the end-all, be-all answer for everyone. Maybe it's a career change you need. I moved towards IT a long time ago after getting fed up with customer service jobs. In the end, both helped each other and I learned a lot about selling and customer service that I apply to my current profession.

If you're stuck in a rut, get yourself out. IM is tough and it may take a few years to get the income you need to set yourself free. No use being stuck in a shitty job during those years, though.

You can always use your skills and do some consulting while working on your IM business. If you don't have a skill that you could offer then find out what you are interested in and obtain that skill.

Some examples are Copywriting, Web Design, and Programming. I believe that anyone can learn one of these skills in 500 hours or less and make a six figure yearly income consulting. These skills will also aid in your IM marketing business.

I so feel with you, it is so hard to get out there. Have you got a job in Marketing at the moment? You will definitely need a strong marketing backround to get a job in Internet Marketing.

You could also try various job boards, they are very easy to use and cover a lot of companies. You also have the option to make your CV visible for recruiters so that they can search a job for you!

Nicely put, Kyle. A good thing would be to prepare short term income goals; for the next week, next month, till the end of the year and how much you would need to quit your job and become a full timer in IM. One could factor in parameters such as short term investments (are you planning to buy a car, clear up a small loan etc.), insurance, mortgage, family expenditure. To prepare your income sheet for going full time, you could figure out how much money you are spending on things now and add in anything your company pays as insurance and other perks. This would add upto how much you would need per month if suddenly you had no other source of income. This could be the low number (i.e. how much you would need to survive). For the high number, you could include whatever you calculated above plus enough for all the leisurely things you would like to do.

Now when you know these numbers, you would know when you get there

Right now, I have six sites that I am promoting. Earning about $1000 a month, though 80% of that is from one product/site

At my day job, I bring in about $3200 net per month, but frankly that is not enough for me. Yes, I did get into internet marketing just to make some extra cash online, but now I am hooked and want to do this full time. For the longest time, I have known that my day job was a bad fit for me, but I didn't really like any of the likely career alternatives in my field and basically had no idea what else I wanted to do.

Scrap the 5 that make up 20% and focus all your effort on the one bringing you 80%.

If you are currently spending the same amount of time on each of these sites then simply by switching your focus to the most profitable one you'll exceed your current J.O.B. income.

Lol. I'm not on this route but going to be soon. Btw, my workplace is pretty good and it serves as another motivation to keep me going to work on IM at night also.

Either way, don't quit your job in any case, because it's something that you need for money (even though you may not like it at the moment) or find another job whilst taking a pay cut to switch jobs.

Getting a job is also good for real life experience instead of being glued to the computer screen.

I would not recommend you to just quit blindly. If you do want to quit, reduce your expenditures and if you think you can survive, then quit.
