Optimizing for the new Google Search options?

By now everyone should know, Google has added a new column to their SERPS. I am most concerned (as everyone else here should be) with their "shopping" options. Does anyone have any idea how to optimize for their Shopping search, or any other new shopping option for that matter?

Everyone here needs to be worried, Adsense sites can forget about it, as all the product niches where people who are shopping (the main clickers) learn quickly to click the shopping option and completely filter out any Adsense sites. HOW DO WE OPTIMIZE AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

I don't think it would be much different from the usual thing.

I beg to differ, I have a VERY high ranking ecommerce site which is nowhere to be found in the "shopping" section....

You can't optimize to be included in Google Shopping. It looks like the only way to be listed there is to accept Google Checkout as a payment method and to submit your site to Google Base. Submitting your site lasts for 30 days then you have to resubmit it.

That was the old rule. And maybe still the rule for the little guys. But if you look at the search results things have obviously changed. eBay, Amazon, and a few other sites are there. There is now a big push by Google to not just like submitted products, but to list all products - possibly from wherever.

A melding of the standard SERP with submitted products.

I may very well be wrong. However, after spending a hour researching the only information I could find was what I posted. Perhaps things have changed so recently that no one has posted any new information yet.

Most of the products listed in the shopping results come from google product search: Google Product Search

If you are selling products through an ecommerce site, you can start a data feed.

Your regular search engine rankings basically have nothing to do with shopping results.

I still think the vast majority of people will look in the main serps first. First thing they see. The other options are like separate pages, kind of like being on the 2nd page of results, clickwise.
