How to fix a "www" vs "no www" problem...

INTERNET MARKETING

Ok here's my scenario... I've decided to give hostgator another go. So today I moved one of my websites over to my new dedicated server there. Now when I put in www.myurl.com - it points to the new dedicated server just fine. However, if I leave out the www and just put in myurl.com, it points back to my old server.

Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Just clear a browser's cache with tools like "CCleaner" it's free and try loading page or try it with only proxy anonymous surfing sites like TheProxyFree: Visit websites via an anonymous proxy, bypass the firewall of your institution

  Did you do a permanent redirect from your old server?
  
  On a separate note, this could be exactly why google considers both with and without www's as 2 separate versions, and, possibly as duplicate content.

  Thank you for that JonMills. It appears that my local DNS server must have my old website cached or something. That website shows the same ip for both www and no-www.
  
  edit - hmm I just tried a different DNS server on my router but still having the same trouble.

I've tried clearing my cache, using proxy, and using another browser - same thing. Also if I ping www.myurl.com it goes to my new IP address. If I ping myurl.com without the www it goes to my old IP address. Any other suggestions?

Additionally, make sure you are using ONLY one of those variants: search engines like G. see them as 2 [two] different URL/sites and index them accordingly.

1. At G webmaster tools select which one you will use - G. will index only that one!
2. if necessary, use .htaccess on your domain to redirect all queries for the unwanted variant to the "good" one.
