2 Techniques I Use To Increase Opt-In Rates By 9%...

As some of you may know, I am a strong advocate of using squeeze pages as the entry point of an online business. Tim Brocklehurst put it across well when he mentioned in his newest The Action Freedom Secret report that a squeeze page is like a shop window.

Door to door sales and telemarketing have notoriously low conversion rates because they are hardcore direct selling - going TO the customer instead of him going to you.

A squeeze page gets customers to you. If they put their foot forward and request more information, they will opt-in to your list. If not they will leave.

Here are 2 tips I used to increase my opt-in rates by 9%:

1) Split-Testing

This sounds obvious but I think only 1 in probably 50 squeeze page owners does this! Do split-test your pages to find the highest converting page. There is no end to split-testing, just keep testing your headlines, bullets, formats against each other to constantly fine-tune conversions.

I know one marketer who has 23 variations of his squeeze page showing to his visitors! That's multi-variate testing. Do that when you get lots of traffic.

Use Google Analytics to do this - free and easy.

2) Exit Pop-Up

Use an exit pop-up. I use an old school html pop-up but you can experiment with some of the newer technology like Virtual Sales Agent. Perhaps offer a bonus free gift if they opt-in from your exit pop-up. This accounts for almost 2% of my list. Not a biggie, but it's traffic you wouldn't otherwise get.

I suspect with VSA, you could get even more mileage out of this strategy.

Anyway, I'm off to tweak my squeeze pages...

    Be carefull when testing, as you need to know where the traffic is coming from.

    eg. I could put a page in a traffic exchange and be delighted at 1% opt-in, but the same page could be converting at > 50% for safelist traffic.

    If you're using aweber they have some stats in the web form that will show how much traffic and subscribers you're getting, but I agree that GA is a great tool
