Can I put my Facebook "Like" button in downloadable eBooks?

Does anyone know if it's possible to put a "Like" button inside a downloadable eBook or pdf file? I assume since you can put other clickable links within a downloadable eBook, you should also be able to add the "Like" button to it as well for a Facebook Fanpage?

Any tips would be appreciated - thanks!

The Like button is generated by Facebook javascript code... if you can host javascript withing your pdf (you can't) then you could put it in there.

It's pointless though isn't it? "Like" buttons are used to show pages that you like on your "liked pages" in Facebook... think about it... What would show up even if it was possible to click a Like button within a pdf document?

As someone said, just have a link to a page on your site, perhaps a blog post. This 'Like' feature is brilliant for blogs - if someone clicks 'Like' it's shown on the wall, which has the potential to reach hundreds of other people

great idea but as the above said, it wouldn't really work with the like button.

hmmm....what if you could put a like button into your PDF file that when clicked would actually register as a like for the purchse page, or the download page if it is a free report...

Will have to investigate this more

Just make a link to the page where you want people to "like"

As someone suggested, an image that is maybe a thumbs up or something, and they could click that image and it takes them to the page where they can actually hit the like button.

You can include an image or a link, which Redirects them to the page you want to take them too,

as an alternative way of doing it,

        Correct?

I wonder if you could make a redirect that automatically liked a page.

i.e. instead of clicking the like button, it just automatically "liked" a page.

This would be a hosted solution, so you could run a script inside of the redirect.

Then, link your "Like" image in your ebook to that redirect.

Someone clicks the "Like" icon in your ebook and gets sent to the redirect, which automatically "likes" whatever page you choose (your opt in page?) and then forwards to facebook...

I'm going to play with this...

I was going to say that. I'll let him play with it, and bring his results back when he's done playing.

That's what I was thinking but my Javascript skills are not so awesome and I can't do this. Will look into what other people have to say

I played with it for about 20 minutes, then realized that I was just finding something to take my focus away from what I should be doing and corrected course.

So, feel free to take it on.

I usually just put a picture in..the like button or a graphic saying join our Facebook page...Then it links to my Facebook page, but a landing page telling them to press the like button.. A big fat arrow!

You can put code to re-tweet a certain page though...And maybe a link to your Youtube channel...

mr2monster... sure, you can do that. you can call the FB javascript library Like function (you'd have to check the docs to see what exactly that is) and once that function returns a value... show a thank you note on your hosted page.

Thanks for the tips - I'd love to hear an update from someone who has figured out the best way to do this. I too am going to see about testing it.

In my particular niche (and perhaps every niche) forwarding content is done ALOT. People forward ebooks to their downline - and I think it would be great to not only encourage people to opt-into our list, but also to "like" the content.

I like the idea of the redirect - that would probably work well.

I'll check back to this thread after I'd tried some testing with it & let you know what worked well. If anyone else tests - please post an update as I'm sure we're all curious to know the best way to do this.

    Thanks!
    Rachel
