Article Marketing and Dupe Content

Question about article mkting and dupe content.
I submit articles to article directories for their backlinking juice to my adsense sniper sites. At this point I don't really rely on the traffic from the articles. I've read some discussions on WF about the pros and cons of posting exact duplicate articles on multiple directories. For example, posting original article "A" to Ezines which has backlinks to your adsense site, them posting 10 exact duplicates to different directories with backlinks back to article "A" to give it more juice. In a sense creating a link farm using legit sites.
1. Is this strategy effective?
1a. Or is it better to just have all 11 articles linking directly to your adsense site?
1b. Or are scenarios 1 and 1a a waste of time because the 10 articles are duplicates so they won't get indexed by Goog?
2. Does an article need to be indexed by Google in order for the backlink to carry any useful backlinking power?
2a. Will a duped article get indexed by Goog?
Sorry for the seemingly repetitive rephrasing of the questions. Its just the questions address slightly different shades of same issues that are bugging me.:confused:
