If you were making 6 figures a month, how different would it be?

I thought about this and if I was making 6 figures a month (which I dont, but working on it) or a lot of money. I live in a nice condo in a busy area in Toronto, plan to move to the subsurb in a year away from the city. If my income increased alot, it would not change my plans for me. Maybe some upgrades on the new place.

What about you? Would you change your whole life style if you had money or are you content?

Cheers,
Mukul

once you start making $100k you want $200k.. then you want 500k then 1Million

If you stop and be content with what you're making, then that's what you' and your biz is worth. Just you keep being hungry for more, your competitors have to keep up with you or else they lose.

Right now, I make that a year. If I was making that a month, my life would
only change as far as the time spent on my business...obviously. You don't
get that kind of income doing the same thing you were doing before.

But as far as my life style, that would not change. I have everything I
need and more money isn't going to give me something that I can't already
      get now.

So no, in that respect, my life wouldn't change...which is why I have no
desire to make 6 figures a month.

I would more than likely not make a bunch of "stuff" changes like houses and cars. For me it would be all about time freedom. And more time spent with my kids and friends. Wealth is not created by buying a ton of things and want long term wealth..

        Let's see:

        1. Expensive cars (Ferrari, Lamborghini - or possibly even a Maserati after some saving up)
        2. Expensive cloths (Armani Black Label, other limited edition designer)
        3. Expensive partying (champagne spray parties in Marbella, VIP tables in local premium nightclubs)
        4. Expensive company (ahem)
        5. Expensive housing

Shallow and materialistic? You bet - but the point of money is to live life to the full.

That's funny, Mukul. I live in the burbs right now and plan on moving downtown

If I made 6 figures a month, I'd probably spend 6 months out of every year traveling (or at least doing something unrelated to 'work').

    More money means more freedom.

More freedom means more quality time with family.

More quality time with family means more smiles.

    More smiles means more fun.

So yeah Life would be more fun with 6 figures a month.

I read an article today about Bob Bernake, chairman of the federal reserve. He was speaking at a college graduation ceremony, and said that the more money you make tends to wear off after awhile. Without going into too much detail, he basically said that when you reach a certain point, it's fun and all in the beggining, but after awhile it loses its appeal.

I think the people chasing the 100K a month dream focus too much on how it could improve their life, without really thinking about what can improve your life. I mean really, lets be honest, money can buy you alot of things, but in the end if your not happy with what your doing (that includes internet marketing or anything else), then no amount of money will satisfy you.

Case in point, I live just outside West Palm Beach, FL. There is probably more millionaires in the area that i live in than most places in the US. Honestly, every time I walk around the publix on a grocery run, I see so many miserable jerks. I mean, they are driving around in lexus' and BMW's, wearing flashy jewelry, live in 10th floor condo's overlooking the ocean, and THEY...LOOK....MISERABLE.....As if they were dirt poor and had nothing going for them.

And here's me, drivin my beat up 1999 pontiac grand am, living in a 2 story condo with my girlfriend, and I'm happy as a pig in Sh&t.

Sorry for the rant, working on my second glass of wine

is it you or the wine talking? lol
anyway.. I'm making close to 250k right now.. if i were to start making close to 7 figures. I wouldn't say i wouldn't change.
I would probably move down to Malibu for a nice beachfront condo (around 700k to 1m), maybe get myself a porsche targa s4, and get a few useless fun materialistic stuff other than myself, i'd definitely contribute a lot more to charity.

    Thanks for the responses.

I think people mix time freedom and money up. Last year we traveled 3 months, I dont need to make 100K a month to do that. I would have spent more time and made more money, but its a choice!!!!!

Time freedom is on how you run your business.

Steve, glad you are happy, that is how it should be

Curtis, well we have enjoyed the young life in a busy area, the family life coming soon, so we are moving to the burb

Well, it'd definitely speed up the whole no-fun-but-necessary investments process so I could just get it overwith. House and car? Done. Kids' college tuition? Paid for. Retirement? More than enough for not only a cushy retirement, but I know my kids' futures would be taken care of after I'm gone.

I'd likely spend more time traveling, and shopping for expensive clothes/toys. I am a shopoholic at heart - with expensive taste. That need must be fed! Other than that, what do I do all day... play games, write, read, do artsy stuff, watch House - that won't really change no matter how much I make >

  • It's proven that money doesn't change people nor their habits. Social studies have proven that upon studying people who won the lottery.

The money rush loses its appeal within the first year apparently, and then you're left with whatever you are at the core: if you were miserable with your standard 80k/year job, you'll be still miserable if you hit it rich. The only difference is that you will be miserable in a Porsche instead of a Toyota, that's all.

Conversely, if you were an optimistic, out-going and fun-loving person before, you'll still do fun stuff if rich. But now instead of going for mountain hikes just out of your town, you'll go to the Swiss Alps.

So I guess the moral of the story is that, at the core, money won't change you much.

I'm not a millionaire, but few years ago I was literally broke (at one point I had $45 in my bank account). Now I make a comfortable living. Have I or my life changed much? not really, to be honest. I just get to go out for dinner without having to worry about whether I'll have enough left to pay for the rent at the end of the month, that's all.

If I made 7-figures per year instead of 6-figures, I'd be crafting very carefully an upcoming retirement plan. I don't intend to become ever a super-millionaire. As soon as I hit a two or three millions on my account, I am out of here for good.

As I make more money it just lets me help more people I care about. I've often been in nice places with enough money and thought that no amount of extra money would actually make any difference to me in that moment. But I do always come across people that need help and my spare money always goes, so having more just means I have more to give away when I see people in real need.

I know that's not a very 'business' answer but it's what I've found to be my reality so far.

Of course that also means that no amount of money will ever be too much either so making more is always a good idea.

People that just have to spend (waste) their profits are doomed to end up back at the poor house. Save for a downturn and invest wisely. Then if you have some spare blow it on a luxury or 2 realizing it is money down the drain.

I am just starting in the Internet Marketing business, and making 6 figures a month is not even in my thought patterns yet. Im still working on $1 a week. Have to start small, and work my way up right?
Well, if I was making 6 figures a month, I would pay off my school loans. Pay off all my other debt. Help my parents finish paying for their house. Then I would outsource as much as possible so that I wouldn't have to work as hard, giving me more time to spend with my son.

Here's what I would do if I were making six figures a month:

    1) Buy real estate .. The risk level for this type of investment is low if you're buying it to rent out. if I can buy real estate that guarantees me somewhere between 4 to 6k a month I'd be happy. I'd even hire a property management company to manage my small estate. (This would be my fallback.. )

    2) After dishing out for all that property. I'd start spending a chunk of my profit in outsourcing as much of my business as possible.

    3) I'd probably spend a few K's a month in charity. Trust me.. the amount of gratitude you get from a poor person when you give him money is overwhelming. It just makes your day.

    4) After I get my current busines on autopilot.. I'd probably start another company. A new business. I know a ton of you would want to retire in the Bahama's for eternity.. but I think it'd get boring after a while. Starting a new business keeps your juices flowing...

Im off to call my dreams.. I'm tired of following them. I'll just see where they're heading and catch up with them later

      Great answers guys!!!!!

I totally agree that it will keep your nature no matter if you have money or not have money. Also what it would do is increase the size of the down payment or where you travel. Instead of a month in downtown Bueros Aires (which costed us about 7K, spend a month travelling Italy (which I am guessing or would budget since we like to have fun, 20K).

Davioli, You plan similar to mine 5 years ago, but backworths

Step 1 - Leave Job From Part Time Business DONE

Step 2 -Make lots of money online (here now, working more on lots)

Step 3 - Take money invest in real estate for monthly income.

The internet is great and it is my business's home, however lets me real, when I dont want to hussle each day and be on top of it, real estate can sit there for many years and bring income. The internet will change soo much that what makes you money today, is not like gonna 10 or 20 years from now.

      Cheers,

Expensive is not a criterion - exclusive is. Very few people can afford Armani Black Label; even fewer can afford a Bughatti; and perhaps a few hundred can afford real estate in Marbella. For me, it's all about partying with good-looking girls (who tend to be expensive), driving exclusive cars (which tend to be expensive), smoking a good Cuban cigar (at $100 a pop, it's not exactly expensive, but it gets pricey if consumed in regular amounts) - you get the idea.

Whatever people might say, the best things in life aren't free :-)

EDIT: Oh, and of course, let's not forget the value of a good status symbol.

It is a very good question. I'm a believer of living within my means that means I only drive cars that I can pay cash for and live in a house that 25% of the house hold income is going in to it. Having said that, when I make the six figure income monthly a lot of things will change for me and my family. As most people mentioned. It won't change me such as my values, how I view the world etc... I would probably have the same happiness and gratitude towards life as I do now. However the change would come into a car am going to drive and house I want to live in. I will not go to luxury either but at least drive a new car and living in good suburb with great school district for my kids etc... one of the most important things that money is going to provide for me is going to be time freedom. And also taking vacation where ever I want to with out not being worried about the financial impact. That would be a blessing to have. Thanks for making us reflect on this.

My lifestyle would not change that much...I already have someone to take care of the everyday stuff I don't like to do, like clean, laundry, make the sheets, etc.
I decided to change my lifestyle before 6 figs/month happened (Which it hasn't yet) by moving to somewhere where I can afford the lifestyle (i.e I work out of Central America and love it).
One of the reasons we left the US is that MONEY does NOT make you happier. Lack of money does. More STUFF does not make you happier. We have less here but are far richer with our time and smiles.
But you have to decide what your focus in life will be.... $$$$$ & Stuff or Your Chosen Lifestyle.

Especially since I will be driving a couple other people six hours away this weekend with no air conditioning. I must remember to put on deodorant. I hope they do too.
