Domain Registrar, Claiming someone wants my company name?

Hi,

I was recently contacted by a domain registration company based in Hong Kong and they said that they had been approached by a third party that wanted to register several domains name that contained my company name.

They asked did I care? and I responded saying please don't allow the third party to purchase the domains as it's my registered trading name and is also trademarked.

They responded and said the trademark does not matter, and basically I should buy the domains myself to protect them.

Is this just a clever way of selling domains? They are all domains like .cn .hk .asia and so on and I don't think they have any real value.

Anybody else had this experience?

Ignore it, its just another scam.

You will end up with a load of worthless domains with your company name on it if you buy them all.

Yep I see this all the time. It isn't worth it and what are you gonna do with all those extensions anyway?

Recently someone else on this forum received a similar letter. So yes, it's not legit.

Whenever you get weird letters like this, don't respond. Instead, plug a few sentences into Google. You're bound to see that others have received the same thing.

    Cheers,
    Becky

This scam has really been making the rounds lately. This is about the 3rd or 4th thread like this here, so you know they're hitting a lot of people with this.
