Are statements like THIS effective in deterring fraud?

Awhile ago, I recall reading a post by a gentleman who said that monetary rewards would be given to those who report illegal distribution of his content. He apparently included this statement in his book.

Have you used anything similar? Has it/Does it prove to be effective?

Here is something I have drafted up for one of my products....I have yet to apply it....is there anything else you think I should ADD to it? Thanks!

" Monetary awards have been, and will continue to be, given out to those who report unlawful distribution of our content. All products, books, and elements of this course are copyrighted, and copyright infringement is not looked upon highly by us, or by the law. In order to qualify for a monetary award, your reporting must be accompanied by solid proof. Accusations, for the sake of accusing, will not be taken lightly, either.

I think it can work very well.

But honestly if someone is going to be a thief or under handed, I'm pretty sure they're going to do it no matter what.

Not to say don't put that message in there, but I guess I'm just saying that as it may deter some it may not deter all.

There are some dirty people out there and they will find a way to try and get their way regardless of any notifications.

I strongly doubt that it will help.... not that you shouldn't go ahead and use it anyway. The odds are just low that an individual will knowingly stumble on a piece of your work being ripped off... whereas a simple Google search is very likely to turn up results.

The other reason that I would exercise caution is that the moment you start offering cash for anything, claimants are going to come out of the woodwork. I realize that you state that solid proof is needed, but would you like to see how many free, anonymous blogs I could start up and post your content on in an hour?

My instinct is to say that the offer is more trouble than it's worth. Of course, if you do go ahead with it, do let us know how it works out.

I would leave out mentions of monetary rewards and just say something like "Please report any illegal distribution of this product to..."

If your contact info is easy to find, someone willing to report piracy shouldn't need the promise of a cash reward to let you know.

      Totally agree.

Opening up a second can of worms and having to track all the "he said, she said" scenarios based on a promise of monetary reward is counter productive and can lead to further troubles for everyone involved.

      Spend the time moving forward.
