List the best ways to get Affiliates

What are the best ways to get affiliates?

Personally, I believe having a good affiliate backend with banners and support helps when they actually visit your site, but obviously getting them to the site in the first place can be the problem.

Forums seem to be a great way to get affiliates, but obviously this is sort've limited to the people activiely looking to promote new products on that paticular forum.

Another way can be searching for competing websites in Google and contacting the owner of the website's personally.. How many of you tried this? What kind of approach (email) did you send them? What kind of success rate(affiliates) were you able to get?

Your thoughts?

It's a rather hit or miss situation with manual recruitment since many affiliates are too lazy to try something new.

Best way to get them into the loop is to give them as mush "cut and paste" options as possible. And give a bigger payout than 50% (if it's digital).

There are many other ways off course. that's just one idea I had from the top of my head.

I personally go to the personal route lol.

Go to events and talk to people, if you have good stuff they will mail for you. I've gotten some great affiliates and friends this way.

EXTRA SPECIAL TIP: Buy people lunch, at the cost of 20-30 bucks you get their attention for 1-2 hours and you almost always get your investment back.

Your techniques definitely work and I do it myself. But I consider those affiliates JV partners. I think the OP is referring to affiliates in general (who find you site and affiliate terms).

Did you try adding your product to one of the affiliate directories online. Big ones like Clickbank, Commission Junction get a lot of traffic and there are many smaller ones - do a search.

    Good luck

I think finding lots of affiliates is a waste of your time. If you invest the time into quality people that you know can mail for you, you end up with a small network of maybe a dozen people that can make you 10 times more money than 100 regular affiliates.

For me I'm more interested in creating long term business contacts then a few sales.

Very true, but not every person who attempts to acquire affiliates have the means to meet those 'jv partners' or even take them to lunch or something. Some vendors are situated in parts of the world where good jv partners don't exist.

And to suggest that those relationships be built online is a fair thing to say. It can be done and is being done. But it's very difficult and very timely to build those relationships.

If your site is in the niche of IM, I think it's a little bit more difficult. If you are promoting a product in a different niche, I feel it's a bit easier to find affiliates by inviting the owners of the top sites.

However, there are a few different methods. If you have made some friends in IM, you can always ask them to help you get started by being an affiliate and/or asking some of their partners to be your affiliate. Another is to invite those marketers who send you emails all the time because you're on their list. If they see you've been on their list they may be more likely to say they could be your affiliate and send out an email promoting your product. If it's someone with a big list, you need to offer them a really high commission, most likely.

It can be hard because those guys with a big list are more interested in adswaps, really. But you just have to be persistent and contact as many as you can. It's like sales. To make sales you need to get a lot of traffic or in traditional sales contact a lot of people. You may have to offer to do some promotion for them besides just giving them high affiliate commission.

In other niches, I would say just contact as many of the top ranking sites as possible. You should be able to get affiliates who can put your banner, etc. on their site even if only 1/10 say yes, you know you'll get sales as the sites are high traffic as they're ranked for good keywords, assuming you have done proper keyword research.

So, I think it's all about contact by email for a lot of these. If they want to talk to you, give them your phone number or skype. I think the in-person thing can be effective as well, but you need to be at conferences, etc., and this is more of a long term plan.

    Any more suggestions?

I'm going to put into action what all I've learned here in this thread and post any update's on what works/does not works. I'm doing a niche product launch on Clickbank soon.

    Thanks

The best things you can do are to share the wealth (meaning your affiliates get a good percentage or sell high ticket items), also that your product converts well. This will help you stand out in an affiliate network.
