my 2 cents would be as below:

never send friend requests when you join twitter new, send friend request only after you have made 10 informative tweets. there are more possibilities now all your friends requests gets accepted.

talk or tweet about a small niche and grow over it.

retweet only news and quality stuff, no crap retweeting just for the sake of tweeting

link your blog home page in your profile after you get quite a bunch of followers. else they may think you are there only for website traffic

do not fully automate twitter, make it partially automated. fully automated twitter profile seems like a bot and not a person thats behind it.

follow the twitter trend only with respect to your niche and not anything else.

    all the best!!

    thank you.

You are absolutely right on not sending plenty of random requests. Do not tweet just for the sake of tweeting. Until you are not sure about a tweet and is informative only then you should tweet it further, in your circle. It would be nice if you add more information to it and the make your tweet loaded with information.

Remember if you are sharing quality in your network , sooner or later people will recognize you and that would be the correct time to relish your following.

Provide good content and get the traffic off Twitter and on to your subscriber list. That's the name of the game!

That's good advice given by all. What I do is if I received a friend request I look at the number of followers and tweets.
    - If the person has an high amount of followers and very little tweets he is not actively involved in twitter.
    - His tweets must be in line with the amount of followers. He must also have a good balance between followers and people followed.
    - If someone looks interesting I'll check out their site and sent a DM about something on their site. When they start following me - I'll recommend or retweet something and made quite a few friends this way.

Tweet a mixture of stuff like, personal - good quotes or interesting stuff - mention other tweeple - comment on tweets and get involved.
    - Don't promote heavily unless you have at least a 1000 followers. If you do promote make it your last tweet of the day!

If I see people send out more than 5 tweets in a row I unfollow them even if they have 20 000 followers - don't care because they are rude and don't use twitter the way it should be used.

I received a bit of traffic from twitter and built it up slowly. Don't mix complete different niches. Rather open a separate account for each niche. Try to get targeted followers for your specific niche.

I joined tweople (free) and got a lot of followers there Once people start to follow you in a specific niche, go to their profile and follow the people they follow. Try do not add more than 50 people a day so that you can control and give attention to them.

I just automate my thx for the follow messages with social oomph (free). You can set different welcome and thx for the follow message so they are not all the same. You can also see who retweeted and mentioned your stuff so that you can thank them.

Use bit.ly to shorten long url links and keep track of hits! Use a striking avatar - It doesn't have to be a photo of yourself and can be anything that stands out and represents your niche.

    Hope this helps! Happy tweeting.

Yip - that's me Maggie (following your blog)

What makes Twitter fun is the way it allows you to tweet for personal social networking needs and also when you do business and marketing. Alternatively, tweeting effectively is determined by how relevant your tweets are within your niche, how targeted are your followings and followers and also how regular are you tweeting.

Basically, I tweet daily posting 7 tweets (3 of them would be personal messages, shares, etc) while the others would be links to my new blog post, and other related networks. I use Google Reader to get on track with my chosen markets including internet marketing, e-commerce, outsourcing and blogging and to easily filter them as well. Additionally, I enjoy autposting from Posterous as it replicates my tweets all around my other networks.

Twitter is the latest destination where the advertisers and the marketing enthusiasts lurk around studying the market. This has provided such a platform that would take you from rags to riches, but it is not that easy, earning money in a legitimate way always requires hard work. You should have your target audience decided prior to setting out to make a mark on the people and plan your proceedings by resorting to different means of advertising to have a better impact on the people as it is right said that "what you see would sell better". Twitter could be a good platform in the process to help you attain your target.

Yeah.... I think I must read the whole policy thing again..... But do you think posting 5-7 tweets a day will work.....? It's just that one video says to tweet as many as I can.....

  • Here is what Twitter is:

    * A networking platform to build great relationships and build a targeted following

    * A great source of traffic to your website(s) and if done properly, leads and sales

    * A great place to converse, interact, and build a good relationship with your followers

    Twitter is NOT:

    * A direct selling platform

    * A direct affiliate marketing channel

    * A place to keep pitching your offers all day long

As long as you follow highly relevant people in your industry / niche and tweet valuable content to them, you should see a return on your invested time. Don't forget to be yourself and tweet fun stuff every now and then.

Tweet as often as possible but don't spam. Follow Twitter policy and try to interact with your followers as often as possible.
