Hypothetical Article marketing question

Hi guys,
I have a question for you....
Lets say you have an article that you want to get the number 1 spot in google. It's a competitive term so you will have to build backlinks to the article. So which Directory do you go for?
1)ezinearticles
2)articlesbase
3)goarticles
Other: please state

I like EzineArticles myself but how about putting the article on your site and create backlinks to your site?

If all you are concerned with is getting an article ranked for a competitive term then right now Ezinearticles.com is your best place to submit the article and then pile on the backlinks to it.

I'd write articles for the other major directories and also submit to them along with answering a question on Yahoo Answers related to the competitive phrase. Make some videos targeting the keyword phrase also.

In fact, saturate the heck out of the keyword phrase with every available online real estate you can use because you never know which one will get ranked the highest.

Of course, somewhere in all that virtual real estate you are occupying with your content I'd spinkle links back to an article on your own website because it's truly the web content you want ranking in the organic search engine results for the keyword phrase.

  Exinearticles seems to get favored by Google, if your article is not repeat content, and not a rearange of an existing article, and you got seo method of writing an article done, it should see good search results.

If I wanted to get my article ranked number one in Google, I would first search the term, (before even writing it) and make sure that the first few spots aren't already taken up by Wikipedia, about.com, or any other big sites like that. You certainly aren't going to bump any of those sites.

If not, I would write the article. If so, I would try to rework the title until I found the top spot taken up by sites like bobsblog.com (fictional thing I just made up, but it sounds kind of cool) But you get the idea, something a little easier to bump.
