What Are Potential Figures For This?

Hello,

I'm looking to start an online magazine / portal / blog.

It would be similar to that of AskMen.com - in terms of type of site.

My question is... what sort of advertising revenue can you expect in relation to unique visitors and page view?

Say the site got pretty big and was receiving 500,000 page views a month. How much income could advertising generate?

I'm not talking about adsense... if the site got that big I'd be dealing direct with advertisers.

I guess it depends what market you're in and some other factors...

But take askmen.com as an example, that's a big site. What sort of rates would they be charging to run a banner ad?

And again, what's the average advertising revenue compared to uniques/page views... if there is one?

I'm just talking about advertising revenue here... forget products sales, affiliate products etc.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Do you know how saturated and difficult this niche is? 500,000 views per month is going to cost a LOT of money. A LOT.

      That wasn't the question.

Read their media kit to see what they are getting. I don't know if you can get the same, but you set out the hypothesis.

Web analytics provides data on the number of visitors, page views etc to gauge the .... For example, what revenue increase or cost savings can be gained by ... A Unique Visitor counts once within the timescale. Historically, web analytics has referred to on-site visitor measurement. However in recent years this has blurred, mainly because vendors are producing tools that span both categories.

500000 pageviews a month would average 16666 pageviews a day. Say each potential targeted visitor have an average of 3 pageviews. That'd
mean about 5555 visitors a day, which isn't really big at all. Askmen probably have close to half a millions visitors a day.

I don't think it's any good to deal with advertisers themselves on that traffic. many blogs never make it to 1000 visitors a day at all. It's a hard niche to get traffic due to so many competitors in this niche.

If it turns out your blog/magazine is successful, it might not be a bad idea to use adsense for it, I remember the story of that girl who become a millionaire with her site, whateverlife.com. she's on adsense as well.

Thanks to those who've given a helpful response.

I only gave askmen.com as an example. I didn't say I was going to be in that market. I just said that TYPE of site.

OK then, 500,000 page views a month is quite small.

How about a site getting 1 million uniques a month...?

If advertisers are having success with my traffic, what is the POTENTIAL ad revenue?

I know there are many things that come into it, but what are some site's like this making?

    $500 a month? $5000 a month? $50,000 a month?

Does anyone here have EXPERIENCE with this?

    Thanks.
