What's Your Phone Setup?

I would like to get a separate phone line for my business, and I'm trying to figure out if I should get a land line phone or a cell phone.

I called a couple of cell companies, but it seems that no one offers the capability of having 2 lines reach the same phone (though I read an article somewhere that Nextel offered this a few years ago)

I already have my personal cell phone, and I'd like to keep it private. At the same time if I went with another cell, it seems like I would then have to carry 2 cell phones with me.

It's pretty important that customers are able to reach me when I'm on the road.

Just curious. How are folks handling their phone setup?

You could use Google Voice or Kall8. I believe you can run those through your personal phone without giving out your number.

Yeah, Google Voice is great. In agreement there. And not sure about the Voice apps for other phones, but it's got some GREAT integration with my Android handset. Can call using my phone's number by default, my Voice number by default, or have it ask every time. LOVE IT.

I have Skype and Google Voice forwarding to a cell phone.

When I'm at my PC, phone calls to my Google Voice number ring through on Skype and I don't have to find my cell. When I'm not, they come to my cell. If I don't answer, Google Voice transcribes the voice mail and emails it to me.

Both Google Voice and Skype provide me with additional phone numbers, so I can switch cell phones anytime I like without changing my number - I have both an Android and a Windows Mobile device, and I've still not really decided which one I like better. They both kind of suck, just in different ways.

You could get a magic jack.

Personally I travel too much so I have a cell # which I limit who gets access to, and I can go on skype to talk which is entirely free.

Another vote for google voice. It doesn't matter what area code you use so go for a vanity number.

I got invited to google voice and after doing the research decided against using it for my business. In their TOS they can cancel the service at any time and also their is talk about adding short advertisement messages to your voicemail when people call in. We dont know what google will do with their free service. Also their is no phone support, if something goes wrong with your number your sh*t outa luck!

I sell a service for $39.95/month that will automatically find you and forward calls to your cell, home, office, or whatever. It's a virtual assistant with music on hold that will "professionally" screen calls for you by asking you if you want to take the call or send to voice mail. In addition, once you have all your contacts uploaded, you can make a call to anyone in your contact list from any phone, or send a voice, text or email message to up to 2,500 in your contact list all at the same time. It's all by voice command - you never even have to touch your phone again!

This also includes unlimited long distance calling from your home or office anywhere in the US or Canada. And, a real live assistant is at your service as your own private secretary for tasks such as confirming your appointments, making restaurant reservations, road and traffic conditions, weather, travel, shopping price comparisons and more from your phone.

You get all your communications; your home, office, cell and even emails into one simple unified voice activated system. Skype or Google voice can't really do much of that for any price.

Google voice is great. Talk about adding short advertisement messages to your voicemail is nothing compared to the service you get. Nothing is for free.
