How important are anchor texts in backlinks?

Just curious, I've been doing some manual backlinking as of late (on sites within my niche) so i've been trying to make relevant posts so if there is an approval process, my post won't be off-topic and considered spam. Anyway, for every post I've included my site's URL on the URL field when submitting the entry and if it gets posted on the blog as a comment the link to my site is on my author name. Now I haven't been placing an anchor text link within my posts or rather at the end of my comment, does it matter much? will I still get rank points even if i don't use anchor texts?

    Hey Limesour

Anchor text is important when you're back linking, but so is pagerank (i.e. the quality of the backlink).

I agree with ocoa101 in terms of the keyword phrase should be used to link back to your site which will help you rank higher for the term you wish to rank for.

But I don't aggree that the site that you're actually linking fromhas to be related to the theme of your site.

Obviously you don't want to be talking about zebras on a flowers website but the discussion part of things is not the only place that you can put a link on a website.

There are a couple of people inthe forum that provide "linking packs". One of them is Angela Edwards and along with the links that she gives she also gives an intro report, which has a section in it about the myths of keywords. It's pretty good (...not trying to sell it to you)

Also, one more thing. When you're backlinking, don't just exclusively use the keyword phrase that you're trying to rank for. Punch that phrase into the google keyword tool and use some of the phrases in the "additional keywords" section.

Makes everything look more natural and google will give you some more luuurve.

    Hope this helps man.

    We'll catch up soon.

    Reach new heights,

    Nathan
