How Long Before You Made Your First Sale or Money In IM?

I found it quite uplifting and reassuring to know that some of the most successful IM'ers had to wait a while before they met with success. It just shows that you've got to stick with it.

I think a lot of newcomers will be interested to know how long it took before you made your first sale or made money.

Myself, I'm involved with a high ticket opportunity at $3,000 and did not make my first sale until 6 months in. In that time I persisted and learned and stayed positive and eventually it started to work.

I made a little bit of money fairly early on, it didn't take too much effort but it wasn't an amount that I was happy with.. it took about 3 weeks I think.

It took quite a bit of time: several months. I was then very new to affiliate marketing and did not really know what to do. I was randomly posting my affiliate banners and links. I thought that if I simply put up a website and put my affiliate links there, people would come rushing to buy. Of course I was wrong.

It took me 12 months. The reason it took so long was that I was just dabbling with it without being serious. I was at college at that time and spent only 1-2 hours per day on IM.

About 1 and a half year.

And just because I was being a stupid ______________(can't find the curse word strong enough )

I kept lurking without actually doing anything and it totally killed me. Then finally I started working hard and came up with a plan that was pretty much article marketing but I had twisted it a bit. I followed the plan to perfection and it took me 3 weeks of hard work before I saw a sale.

It's been pretty constant after that one though. I've been making around 3k a month for about 7 months now.

I made my first sale after a couple of weeks of writing around 15 articles a day.

Needless to say, my article marketing methods were pretty crap back then but it was certainly not a wasted effort in terms of learning and development.

I got my first sale at around 17:00 and my second sale at 17:25. So that was my first $50 day

Took my a couple of weeks. Made my first sale selling 'How To Set Up Digital Delivery' off eBay for about £0.24. I made a loss but was excited that I sold something

Took about 1 year to bring earnings up to £500-£1000 a month on eBay. This is when I quit my job and started to take things more seriously.

Started building more listings and creating new accounts for new niches but then they stopped all that digital delivery...

I then turned to ClickBank and put up my first Tattoo website, brought in a consistent income of around £400-£600 a month, and then I turned to the internet marketing niche and I started list building and viral marketing.

Now, 3 years on, I'm doing about £5k a month with an array of my own products and membership sites and a bit of affiliate marketing.

I invest in ready-made websites whereever possible and snap up a new domain to match every few days.

It feels like time stopped since then up to now, when you're deep into doing something everything else seems to slow down.

It took about 1 month of launching the site....I had quite a few failed sites that didn't make it though.....all in all it took about 1 year to learn the ropes and a few months of experimentation with a variety of sites to get the proper blueprint.

I will tell all you new folks out there that are just learning the ropes:

I may seem like ALOT of information to learn but once you learn the information it's like riding a bike when it comes to making money online.

Also I will say this: Don't get discouraged over a failure....learn from that failure to see where things went wrong and turn that failure into a lesson that you won't do it again next time around....pretty soon you will have a rock solid method that you can turn profits with over and over again.

Also don't spend too much time with only one site....a lot of times even the best of SEO marketers get it wrong.....(I'm not one of the best)....there are elements outside you relm of control that cause a site to bust.....so....just keep on digging and never look back and in a year from today.....you will be the teacher and not the student.

4 months...total profit $50,000...being broke until this point realllly sucked though.

No job for six months and living in your mom's basement for almost a year really takes it's toll.

It didn't come easy for me...I studied success, mindset, business, marketing, and psychology.

I'm actually an oddity.. I made money before I even decided to do anything online. I had an insurance agency website, someone told me to put a link on there and it turned out it was an affiliate link and led to a sale (which originated from offline referrals)..

..but.. from that point when I discovered affiliate marketing accidentally and decided it's something I wanted to do full-time someday it took me about 2 years to really figure stuff out, close down my offline stuff and do IM full-time.. but I had to work nights and weekends to get to that point and didn't know what I know now.

      thanks John. I appreciate it...

Well...hmm...I just started out looking to develop and sell success material to IMers...it sounded like a good start. It was the perfect niche for me...and being the success fanatic I am, I'm pretty active in the success portion of Warrior...

Hmm...then about 3 months ago I found someone looking for a success/accountability partner and I hopped in...well about 10 people actually showed up to the forum and 7 dropped out...like within a week lol...anyways I shot out a business idea to bounce off the boys and they were like...uhhh how bout we do this!!

So we chose to build a business...Our market is simple: People that are looking to make money in online business while working full time...our target was newbies...so we kind of micro niched but we're going to end up using both niches....

Two months ago...still no money. One of my partners got sick so we had to completely restructure again...

Here was our "final" business plan:

We spend 3 or 4 months for me to develop and build ebooks while I learned the fundamentals of trading....

So I spent an entire month building my first product...it was on a $1,000,000 business strategy...more like THE million dollar strategy...so anyways. Early may I'm ready to launch and my biz partner said...

woaahhhh....great product. I really like it...but I've got an idea.

      haha...so why don't we build a badass ebook...which we eventually turned into a 3 month coaching program...beauty.

So we got together built up a biz plan and launched....I studied psychology hard so I understood how to capitalize on our idea...

I'll let you in on how I went about it...this is really cool and I'm honestly going to be selling this for thousands next year because they work.

      1. Understand your customer...their fears and dreams.
      2. Provoke their fears and agitate them...
      3. Offer a UNIQUE product
      4. Be yourself...capitalize on your knowledge and experience but don't boast it. Just act normal like you would around friends....expert status=obnoxious to customers!! And everyone does it!
      5. Sell a small amount of products...I chose 200 for the launch.

Soo basically....I set up the desire in the customers and wrote the copy and my partner put together the program in a week and drove the traffic to teh site and we closed down the second we sold out....

The goal of our "hit and run" was to build up capital FAST so we could expand our business fast...

      More money=more options & outsourcing=way more money.

Now our next couple months are dedicated to building up a "starter pack" for online business....we'll be selling packages in different ways...as funneling & upselling, then bundled...

We'll be selling 200 bundles @ hmm...let me check. I just built this plan yesterday....$495. It's a series of DVDs....1. How to set up your business. 2. Niche Selection 3. $1,000,000 business strategy. 4. $1,000,000 Mindset: How to make a living online 5. Advanced product creation...

That'll be sold out easily through providing demand....I'd love to show you more about how I do it but I have to protect my assets...just look at the top 5...

I'll give you one example: The Niche is simple....This product alone can save hundreds of hours of frustration and can take you from stuggling to make cents per day to making thousand per month...

Now obviously I build off of the "How to set up your business" dvd and show how it complements it to build up the value....

I have a great funneling method that gets the customer to devour the upsells we give them...10% conversion's to 3 upsells is pretty good. Multiply it by thousands and your in business..

Basically..for the next 12 months I'll be developing and researching information products...and we'll be hiring outsourcing to take care of ALL of our busy work...that way we can focus and grow our company fast.

Our goal is $1 million by the end of the year....it's close.

And seriously...we started this business with...$500 bucks I think. My partner is a huge fan of free traffic...it's great to start with but it's not so great to grow a business.

I really wish I could help more but that's all I have...I have no knowledge on traffic...I can only capitalize on it...

So really...I made money by realizing what I'm good at and finding a business partner that complements my skills and flaws.

I really hope this helped...I know it's scattered...if you have any questions I'd feel free to answer them.

Over a year. I knew nothing about what was going on online when I landed in here. I do know how to write, though...so it was just a matter of time before I was able to hook up with some terrific technically oriented JV partners.

It's been a long haul and I'm still not a technician, nor have I played one on TV. But I've found that as long as you have a skill that is in demand, it can be done even if you are completely lost on the technology. IF you have found this forum and have a solid skill and the drive 50% of your work is done for you already.

Within 24-hours of launching my first ebook I had my first sale, 12 sales in the first week several years ago.

That product took me 3-weeks to develop, another week to put together a website, payment processing account and autoresponder sequence.

With your own product, if you can identify a hot topic, put together a product quickly (still of good quality), then you can be making money within 4-6 weeks.

  • Couple of days. Started in MLM.

Used a generic capture page. Stuck up some PPC blindly and got a few leads. 2 Leads converted and I made 200 dollars. First time I tried CPALEAD, made 60 dollars over the first 3 weeks.

Tried Articles to Amazon, made one sale. All of which I tried at the start and made sales fortunately. So knowing it made money was not my problem, it was believing in myself and being lazy. Article took a few days, appeared in the rankings, manage to grab a sale before dissapearing in the serps. Of which I never tried to revive after :/

First I flipped domains on eBay. Then I created a website that did domain appraisals. lol

I made money right away, within days. I just used Adwords and Ebay.

I laugh at it now, but that is how it all began over 8 years ago or so. Now I do it full time and left my job over 3 years ago.

I started reading HTML standards and it took me about 6 months to learn. I already knew Perl. Then it took me about another 6 months to figure out Apache and Sendmail, DNS... the other goodies.... probably a year total from 93 to 94. Sold a guy a website for $20K out of the box in about 2 weeks after I decided to start hustling the services.

    Those were the days.

I got online about 10 years ago and my first venture was a hobby site - it was a labour of love and at the time I didn't even consider monetizing it (I'm not sure Google AdSense was around then - it was all about AltaVista!). Anyway, the site was a HUGE success, had thousands of visitors per day! If I had it now you can be sure it would be making a fortune! I lost interest after a while and let the site expire.

My first real money though came from eBay - it's a great place to start I think.

Then a few content sites for Clickbank 'as a test'.. a few weeks later the first cheque came through the post.. about $100 I think - and the bank took most of it in fees!

Makes me smile thinking back to be honest! The first signs of success are incomparable!

Things are a lot different now
