PC Savvy - Newbie Internet Marketer Seeks Advice

Hey guys,

Been looking at internet marketing for a while now and really want to start something...

I've read through a lot of posts on this forum regarding beggining this process.
I am looking for some pointers as to where to start regards what to sell, or how to monetize websites in the kind of catagory below and maybe seeking a mentor.

I'm interested in computers, gagets, software, web design, music (djing), entertainment (games, movies) and things like these - yeah the usual geek haha.
I'm basically just looking out for some tips/pointers - they would be highly appreciated.

Working off something I'm passionate about (the above) is the best obviously, but should I be starting on more 'obscure' and less crowded niches as some say? What about the products on clickbank with low to nill gravity?

I've looked through clickbank (registry cleaners, driver updates etc.) then did some research on here and it doesn't look like they're a good thing for a beginner internet marketer to try sell... I will continue looking but would like some advice.

I have looked through previous threads regarding beginning as an internet marketer. Thought I might be able to go a bit further with this thread though

Some background of my experience (some people requested this in other threads so I guess I'll add it here.)

I have background in php, html, mysql, wordpress, forums, domains, hosting, photoshop, aweber, website development and what not and can learn pretty much anything techy related relatively easily.

Basic knowledge on keyword research, seo, article marketing, backlinks and basic internet marketing stuff.
I have run an online business previously which had a large user base (regarding MMORPG games) but wanted to run something more maintainable (a more solid business...)

Sorry about the long post... Just like to be thorough and thanks for reading.

You've got the skills, a bit of knowledge and everything you need.

Just jump straight in and start a blog about gaming or something else you love. It'll be a good playground for testing things out.

Later on you can add autoresponders, affiliate promotions, advertising etc. My advice would be to get started and get posting! Build up your site and traffic, monetization will come later as you learn more and more on the forums and from various products.

Good luck, and it's great to see a 'newbie help' thread from someone with more than 2 posts

    Hi,

Don't waste your time looking at Clickbank products are anything like that (yet).

It's a really good way to start wasting lots of time.

The first thing you need to do to take your assessment of your skills and interests and see if you can find a group of people with a problem you can help with.

Being able to access a large enough group of people who want to buy something is what will make all the difference to your results. You shouldn't even be thinking about products until you've already identified people you can access and what they want/need.

Since you're into DJing, I'd suggest that's probably a good place to start.

Find DJ communities - there are lots of them. (make sure you look for Facebook groups, Youtube channels etc. too)

See what people are looking for and buying - and what problems they're trying to solve.

Then pick a sweet spot you know you can help with and focus on that and see how many of the people in these communities would be interested in selling, referring, reviewing what you can offer.
