I don't know how many of you use a blog platform by way of you IM'ing efforts, but I was wondering if any of you are Amazon affiliates running a widget box of recommended products on your site, and how successful it is for you?

Since I'm working in a specific niche, and a lot of jewelry ppl buy particular books specific to our topics, I thought it might be a good idea to install an Amazon widget and see if I could pick up some sales that way.

Think it's click worthy?

Bump....there's not one person who uses Amazon as an affiliate? Craziness.

    I don't believe it!

      Hi Danielle,

I'm an Amazon affiliate but I don't use widget's etc on my blogs. In fact anytime that I have done that I haven't made any sales - not a one!

The most profitable way for me is to build a blog or lens SPECIFICALLY for that product or type of product. And then when talking about the product to hyperlink that to the Amazon sales page.

(Actually my most profitable Amazon campaigns have been ppc but that's another story ..)

In your case I think your best bet, instead of the widget, is to add in text links or image links instead - talk about particular products and direct recommendations rather than let Amazon choose.

But of course that is only my experience, so the only way to really know is to test it out. Try a widget for a week and see how many clicks/sales you get and then switch to text links as see if that changes anything.

Hmmm, good idea Tracey, thank you.

I did make sure I picked the "I recommend the following:" widget, that way I could pick the things I KNEW ppl look for in my niche. Soooo, I guess I'll try to add the widget, then perhaps do a review of some of the texts as a blog pot and point them to the link in the sidebar and link it from the post as well.

    Thank you!

    I just recently installed a bunch on a website I'm testing. It's www.WinningAgainstCancer.com.

The website has pages on several types of cancer so I added books relevant to their specific pages. It's too early to tell, not getting much traffic yet. But if I can find this thread again in a few weeks I'll let you know how it worked out.

I use several of their widgets successfully.

Am currently playing around with the video & mp3 widgets, and using them as part of the content in the blog posts. THis seems to be the way I have been most successful is to make the widget integrated as part of the content.

    Hope that helps somehow...

I'm an Amazon Affiliate, but I use text links. I have adblock plus installed on Firefox, but I can't see Amazon widget boxes (or Google adsense). I don't know how many people have Adblock Plus installed, but they will see direct text links.

(Really I wish Adblock Plus was a little less sensitive and will sometimes turn it off, but that's another story).

If you have a niche blog, I would recommend you to write about a book or a product and have links to Amazon. To be honest, I don't see widgets and banners working well unless they are integrated within your contents.

People just don't focus much on the sidebars any more.

        Danielle,

I have just started using Amazon Product widget but its too early to give you any feedback. I will monitor and let you know if anything substantial becomes of it.

I have doubts because of the niche (golf), but we'll see...

Well, I usually turn it off if I'm in marketing mode. I don't make a full time income from marketing yet. I have a work from home job that requires that I work online and I have to go fast and visit websites that I don't really have time to vet. I don't want to deal with popups when I do this, and Adblock Plus is the one thing I know that prevents all of them.

Also enter sweepstakes (the money I've won this year is enough that I am able to spend most of my time marketing and less of my time working my online job). So for an hour or so in the morning I have 30+ sites open. Again, I don't want to deal with popups.

If you are in a niche with a lot of Firefox users, some of them will have it installed. It's something to be aware of.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I'll see what I can do with it...if it goes nowhere, I'll just scrap it and try something else.

    Danielle...

Adding the amazon widget can do you no harm on your blog, in fact I think it would be a good fit for you niche... it may not be very productive for you, but it also won't be destructive..

    I wanted to say though...

Bear in mind that as an amazon affiliate you are not limited to the widget..

Book reviews related to your niche would go down a storm with regular readers of your blog and the good content you provide will show them that you are straight up..

So use the amazon program in a more diverse manner than just the widget... are you building a list?.... I bet folk in the jewellery game would love a newsletter from you... and within that you could make recommendations to all manner of amazon provided products

    Peace

I am an Amazon affiliate and I tend to use the different types of widgets directly in the posts themselves and find that these get more direct clicks than the ones in the sidebars.

If you offer jewellery it might also be worth you thinking about an Amazon aStore - if it fits with your product line.
