Do You Lose Track of Who's Who in Internet Marketing?

I have to say I can't remember who most of the internet marketers I'm receiving mail from are. I once put together a long list of names to figure out who they are, what they sell, and maybe to do a write up on them on a website, but never got around to establishing who's who. It would have been like a bloody phone directory, the list is so long. I'll say that nearly 100% of them don't update their products (even the really expensive ones). When it comes to the business of selling internet marketing how-tos sold to those in the internet marketing arena, I don't go there much because it bores the living daylights out of me. I like applying internet marketing to real scenarios instead of marketing it to people who, in most cases, don't actually put it into action or consistently follow up on it.

Not sure why you care to know the who's who in IM anyway. Do mean in the IM niche? There are boat load of successful internet marketers, that have never sold an IM product. A great majority of the IM launches are from opportunists that are just cashing in on a hungry market -- not doing business. They may be very successful, but I haven't see a lot of truly impressive products. I honestly believe that many are not releasing products to help people. Most of them don't reveal the truth of what went into producing those massive checks.

The who's who of IM is actually a joke, because their popularity is on their massive launches with the help of their buddies. Their popularity isn't from providing good quality information or helping a lot of people. I think people would let quality speak for itself, and unsubscribe from the majority of their "newsletters" or legal spam, and stick to the fundamentals, and only receive mentoring from one or two people that are the real deal.

Most of the people that have been truly helpful, were not well known. I know a couple a guys that create 6-7 figure businesses one after the other and not a lot of people know who they are, yet they are more successful then many of the "Gurus" you hear about each week.

Yes, the IM niche. I'm not sure why I care either, except I kind of like to know who is sending me emails. My nature is to give people a chance to make their pitch, explain their case (heck, I even do this for panhandlers). I provided my name/email at some point or other to each one of them but whatever it would have been for wasn't enough to leave a lasting impression in most cases. So, unsubscribe we go.

Throughout the years I have been subscribed to 100's of newsletters, and they've rarely provided any information that was worth being on their newsletters and 99% of them hounded me with multiple pitches. I wouldn't mind if they'd share the why a product is valuable and even show they have some kind of passion for product, but they generally would promote multiple offers once within a month.

Remember your time is worth money and you don't want it to be squandered. I'd advise to invest money into one or two paid memberships instead of expecting anything great from free newsletters. I've been on the lists of the biggest names in the IM niche, and it wasn't really worth my time to be honest. Sometimes I'd come across decent info, but it would not be what I needed at the time and would just side track me. Unsubscribing to these newsletters could be the best thing an Internet marketer could do in keeping focused and getting more done.

        All the best!

It would be nice to have a venue where the successful IM's that are not well known could act as advisers /mentors without exposing them to an avalanche of questions.

I'm thinking of a formalized system similar to a Problem Management System (I work in the IT Fortune 500 world behind firewalls where the Help Desk Centers are staffed with 1st level support people and the more expensive technical gurus are on 3rd or 4th level after the lower level support people have filtered the easier problems and failed to resolve the problem).

If you apply the technical PMS framework to the IM world, then that may protect the successful IMs from being overrun with newbie questions , while having a way to provide fair, higher compensation to them through some multi-level subscription system (i.e. 1st level mentor-on-demand for beginners costs x dollars, all the way up to 7 figure mentor for advanced marketers costs xxxx dollars etc.)

I'm just thinking out loud here, so feel free to jump in with comments/feedback.

Fact is, you will only remember those IM's whose advice you followed and were able to make money as a result. Do the rest actually matter?

You are making this work at home stuff way harder than it is. Ready for some sanity? Clear your head and start over.

I also do not understand why you would care to even know who the Gurus are. Besides, most are actually self-proclaimed and simply took an opportunity where they saw it and made it. I think you should concentrate on yourself and your business, and everything you need to do to succeed. You should not concentrate on who's who, but rather on how to get to where you want to be.

I say that when we spend too much time worrying about what other people are doing, where they are and who they are, we lose focus from the main objective which is to be successful. Remember that marketing, whether it is online or offline, is a game of chance, creativity and hard work. Not every business model reacts to certain methods in exactly the same way. On that same note, not everyone can succeed doing exactly the same thing. This means that you should read, learn, practice and implement.

    Good Luck...

Maybe you don't, but definitely a lot of people give more weight to "celebrity" Internet marketing personalities, pay them big money to give seminars, etc. etc.

To be honest, I am not sure how many of these so called "pro" interner-marketers can tell you something that we do not already know. I have followed two(I don't remember which ones) and I quickly saw that they are teaching what you can learn for free or find out on your own.
