What is best way to promote low competition, low earning niche and medium size website

I have started with a low competition, low earning niche and created a medium size website around 150 pages now and planning to grow till 1000 pages by end of this year. Which method would be best value for time to promote it. I don't have money, only manual self promotion methods possible for me.

- blog commenting
- forum posting
- forum profiles
- a small link wheel
- article marketing
- social book marking
- searching for really high value backlinks from sites in this niche.

For monetizing i am using adsense and will add a few small affiliate items as well.

    Sounds as though you have the bases covered on the promotional front. But I do question why you would pour so much effort into a site without testing its profitability first.

    As DeadGuy said, you have the bases covered. If you have the time and patience then you can also look into social networking as well and consider sprinkling in some work with yahoo answers as well.

    However, since it is a low earning niche, I would personally suggest that you keep the work on your end to a minimum until you can prove to yourself that it is a worthwhile niche to get involved with. The last thing you want to do is put months into creating a 1,000 page website that you suggested and then realize that your niche is a dud.

    Consider keeping things smaller at first instead of diving right in. Put a little more work in and when you see a few sales trickle in and analyze your conversion rates, then put the pedal to the metal and consider really ramping up your content creation and promotion.

    I created site in this niche because this is my hobby and i love to read and write about it. But i do need some money to support my hobby in real life and that is why i want to promote this site and earn some basic money from it.

    Out of the promotion methods which one is best value for time. I mean with less time spent i could get a better or longer term backlink.

      Bravo! Doing something because you simply love it is a horse of a different color. Guess I just jumped to the foregone conclusion that your sole motivation was money. (Jaded `ole Me)

      You can focus on any of the methods you've already chosen, and since it's your hobby, I'd opt for the easiest two; article writing and forum participation. Since you don't mind the writing aspect... there you go.

      There are usually a couple of powerhouse forums for just about any hobby. Just type the hobby name +forum into Google and snag a couple of the biggest ones. Join them and start participating, just as you are doing in the WF. Answer questions, ask questions, make meaningful comments, provide information and be sincerely helpful to other forum members. Five postings a day usually does the trick. Of course you will want to add a link in your signature pointing back to your website.

      One cautionary note about hobby forums. They usually frown on overtly commercial references so don't try to do too much selling through the forum. If you do it right, other forum members who visit your website will no doubt sing your praises on the forum in any event.

    If it is that small of a niche, you may want to consider creating your own product. For low volume sites with links to small affiliate products, it is hard to see the return on the investment of your time and effort.

    When you sell your own product you can get a better ROI on PPC ads, you have a more singular focus on your site (rather than trying to send them to this Adsense link and that affiliate page). With less choices, your visitors will be more likely to take action.

    However, like they said above...do test and make sure this niche can be monetized before going forward.

    One tool you should ad to your website is a survey or poll with questions that will give you information about potential customers. Questions that will tell your what they want to know about and will endear them more to your site.

      Particularly with a fairly large site it's important to build a good "link profile" although you should get quite a bit of traffic if you're going for 1000+ pages anyway.

      A few good high pr links will help a lot but you also need to have a variety of others so it looks fairly natural.

      Don't risk your site's future with spammy links or other dodgy practises too much. I know sites around that size that get a ton of traffic and have well under a thousand links,

    The methods you mentioned are the best if you have a tight budget. I have found article marketing and videos to be the best considering they are free.

    With that many pages, I would strictly use Digg or Propeller for traffic. Or if you really want be fancy, you can also make a video per post on your website and submit them to Youtube.com

      thank you all. After reading replies, i realize i should first see the profitability at smaller scale and then only go in writing more and more. I will add few more posts so site looks logically complete and start promoting with combination of methods keeping blog commenting and article marketing as main methods.
