Conversion split test:Which to test first, letter or price?

Hi,
Which would be better (for my new product)

to test the price first and set the price and then make changes for the sales letter and test them,

OR

to test the letter first and decide which letter is the best and then test the price ?

Thanks

I'd say either could work, if I were in your shoes I would test the letter first and then the price. A good letter can lead to being able to charge a higher price, so I'd refine the letter so if performs like a champ, then I'd tinker with the price. If you thinker with the price first, after you optimize the letter you'd probably want to go back and play with the price again anyways.

It is a new product. I'd want to see sales first. In off line direct response marketing, PRICE is a good first test, to see at what price point sales can or will be made. Maybe it won't sell at all at any price.

It depends, of course, on how skilled you are as a marketer and your level of expertise. ONLINE and for IM, there are no rules, only ancedotal information as to what worked for this guy or that.

We don't know what kind of a product it is, a digital product? Real product that requires shipping?

Assuming it is a typical IM digital product, you can split test very easily with different prices set up, you can use a WSO to get feedback on the product itself and parlay that info into both the sales letter and price.

My opinion is, get some sales at whatever price, and then begin your testing. I think you're putting the cart before the horse. But I could be wrong.

First I would test your new product and get sales using the price and copy you think are best. Get a benchmark and track your conversion rate and refund rate. Once you have that you can start to test pieces of it to see what's better.

Just my preference I would test price and copy in a 4 way test assuming 2 copy versions(A&B) and 2 prices(1&2) I'd Get the benchmark on A1 then try A2 then B1 then B2... modify for as many copy versions and prices that you have.

    hope that helps.
