Paralysis By Analysis

Hi All,

I have literally been struck down by the above and I am in need of some serious advice and guidance from all you warrior members.

I delved into the wonderful woprld of internet marketing just over a year ago and have tried quite unsuccessfully to get things started in fact to be honest i have blown my savings on many different products and courses over the last year and I have nothing to show for it.

I am now in limbo, i dont want to give up and really believe that I could be quite successful, but I seem to have the opposite of the "midas touch" where king midas touched everthing and it turned top gold i touched everything and it turned to s**t.

Now I am not adverse to hard work and I am a firm believer of you get out of this life what you put in but I just cant seem to get my feet of the ground.

I turn 40 in a couple of months and they say that life begins then and I am hoping that with some proper guidance and advice i can start to turn this paralysis around, but i dont know where to start.

Could someone give me a gentle nudge in the right direction and help out a lost soul.

Kindest Regards

Paul Reilly

    Create your sales funnel...

    1. Build a list on the front end
    2. Have OTO
    3. Monetize download page with affiliate offers (or your offers)
    4. Create an Upsell/Downsell tree if people purchase your OTO.
    5. Focus on traffic generation (JV's, Adswaps, ppc, etc.)
    6. Test and track all conversion rates.
    7. Make Money

What are you waiting for? Get started!

    1. Focus on one thing at a time.
    2. Find a niche - a starving crowd. People that are hungry for something or have a problem that you can solve. Start by offering something free to them and build a list. Then give them good information mixed with offers to products that will solve their problems.
    3. Quit buying products and courses. Some courses are good, but if you have been doing this or trying to do this for any length of time, you know how it works. There is also a lot of free information here and abroad that is good and will teach you what you need to know.

    Hi Paul,

I know exactly what you're going through. The biggest problem that online marketers face is the "next shiny object" that promises that they'll make tons of money. Last month, the big craze was products on mobile marketing, this month it's been offline marketing and outsourcing, next month maybe it'll be CPA again and the month after that will be some new SEO technique or something.

These products aren't bad. As a matter of fact, about 90% of the products I've bought as WSO's are really good. But what I'm getting at is the only way you'll begin making money online is to pick a product that you bought it the past and focus on that. Put 100% into the course. When the "next shiny object" comes along, ignore it and continue working.

Pick a system and stick with it. You won't have immediate results, but the longer you stick with one system, the chances of you making money will greatly increase.

    Hope that helps...

      I totally understand this!!

When I actually can get moving, I just don't know exactly what to do so that I am not spinning my wheels!

How do I keep motivated and know that what I am doing will make a difference!

First you've got to get off the "money go round" and really decide what it is and how you want to make money online.

There is not just one way, there are lots and when you take that in you can begin to focus and concentrate on really making one thing work.

Even if you take "affiliate marketing" what really is it?

There are loads of different ways you can make money just with affiliate marketing but there are a lot of different methods and particularly specific techniques that can literally make or break the success you might achieve.

Feel free to send me a PM and I might be able to help if you want,

        all the best,
        Neil

Sorry to hear of your setbacks. Without knowing what you have done, what learned knowledge you have put into motion, how you want to monetize your efforts, etc it is not very easy to give advice.

Just a thought: "Paralysis by Analysis" may well be connected to wanting to find the perfect plan before getting on with it... Since you perception of what a perfect plan is, will evolve as you learn more, your target will always be shifting and you will never hit that mark.

If that is the case you need to step back, choose something simple and start being productive. Production leads to results (big or small) which should provide stimulus for more efforts.

Since you seem to have invested in courses and methods I would suggest step 1 is to stop buying any more. You probably know what needs to be done. Just do it - start simple - then evaluate if it was worthwhile with an understanding that IM is a job like any other AND it takes time to leverage results.

    Hey Paul,

Internet Marketing is a set of strategies and tools to be used on a business - but you haven't mentioned your business.

It's hard to know what to tell you to do with your tools without knowing what you're trying to get done.

It's a bit like a plumber asking what to do with his tools before he's been given a leak to fix.

I think you need to think about the bigger picture and decide what you're trying to do.

What are your skills, passions, experience and resources? These will effect what actions make sense.

Chasing keywords and products will keep you in your current cycle - you need to decide what business you're in so that you have a focus and know which IM tools and strategies make sense.

Don't waste any more time doing things that you have no clear reason to expect results from.

    Hi Paul,

Firstly we have ALL been there - I know I have!

    Enjoy it!

When you are rolling in cheques and have a few hundred sites under your belt you will look back at these posts and laugh believe me!

My advice, take what you have learned and focus on ONE thing!

As others have said part of the reason that you can get snowed under is when you try and approach a lot of different markets and techniques all at once.

Make yourself a diary and set yourself goals.

    Day 1 : Write 10 articles on X

Make sure you don't leave your computer until you do your goal/s for the day.

Access what works and don't worry if something doesn't simply move on and focus on what DOES work.

Interact with as many people as you can that know what they are talking about - (HERE!)

Do not be afraid to ask "silly" questions that is how you learn!

The hardest thing is getting started on pure "belief" before you see the money come in.

Keep going and you will have success - but first you may have a few failures.

Although look at your avatar pic - its time to be the William Wallace of Internet marketing - keep going and don't give up!

    Hope this helps,

    Good Luck

    Chris

As a former golf professional, please allow me the golf metaphor, OK?

There were those students who took two or three years of lessons from my staff of PGA professionals, and they had the same handicap after a couple of years as they did when they started...in other words, they didn't make any improvement in their scores...BUT,

their swings were looking good. Whenver I got a student who was paralyzed by wanting to know everything about his swing, I passed him off to someone else.

However, there is a group who were able to make rapid process because they learned how to pay attention to what mattered THE SCORE and the number of times they hit the ball.

So the KEY to golf improvement in the shortest period of time depended upon the ability to HIT THE BALL with a specific purpose. OK, leaving golf for now.

    What can you do?

    HIT THE BALL.

I teach a simple strategy, because I'm a simpleton (I ain't NO Eienstein)...which has you start by taking a small step, a short swing in golf to HIT THE BALL.

Here is my step by step strategy, it may or MAY NOT help you.

Create a simple information product, I call these HOTSHEETS.
ONE piece of paper with useful information on it...anyone can do this and give yourself a week if need be, but set a deadling and DO IT.

You can take a look at some at hotsheetcity.com where you'll find that I do what I teach.

OK. You have a piece of information and can sell it. YOU could use a FREE website to make your offer.

NOW expand your hotsheet into a four page report. It will print out on an 11 X 17 piece of paper and folded, you have a nice report.

Add more info. More detail Make an audio, add video.

This is a ONE month plan of action that anyone can follow, and by DOING, you'll have overcome the inertia of analysis.

You can continue doing what you are doing with similar results, OR you can change directions.

Start small with something you can do quickly and easily, and then BUILD up from there.

    The Starting Point

    1. Pick your plan of action (article marketing, etc)
    2. Focus on doing it.

    Forget:

    1. Buying new magic bullets.
    2. Surfing forums for the magic post.
    3. Reading your email till you are finished for the day.
    4. Anything which wastes your productivity time.

    Short post, works miracles.
