    Do you mean the "more" tag? It is part of WP. When you are creating a post, there is a button on the toolbar (usually to the left of spell check) that says "Insert More Tag." WP will show all the content up to the more tag and then insert the "read more" link.

    Later,
    Dan

      Yes, the built-in "more tags" works, but if you are looking for automation and same amount of text displayed on all posts to keep consistency, then this is a good plugin for that. http: wordpress.org/extend/plugins/content-and-excerpt-word-limit/

    I use the evermore plugin. It adds the more-tag automatically to your blog posts so you don't forget to put it in them yourself.

    You can set it to cut after one paragraph or more, whatever you think works best for your blog

    I use one called "homepage excerpts" which truncates the posts from the home page, but lets you see them in full on single post page.

    I've tried a few but my favourite is now: Post Teaser

    From the blurb:
    "Post Teaser generates a preview or "teaser" of a post for the main, archive and category pages, with a link underneath to go to the full post page. It includes features to generate a word count, image count, and an estimated reading time."

    I like to use the standard one and then go into appearance and editor and change it from the standard read more to something more definable.

    Here is a sample.

    PLR Resale Products And Services

    Now you need to open the file that governs the Homepage, which is usually called “Main Index Template” (or index.php).

    Search whatever is the default for the Read More Tag and replace with what ever you want.

    Once you have that file open you will need to find the line that calls the posts. It looks like this:

    <?php the_content(__('Read more'));?>
    Just replace “Read more” with the text of your preference and you are done!
