How do you make a WordPress URL SEO-friendly?

I noticed all my WordPress blog posts have cryptic URL addresses, such as "www.mydomain.com/?page=3". That certainly is not very SEO friendly. How do you replace the "?page=3" with a keyword-rich phrase, like "weight-loss-diet"?

Thanks.

Chris
